I am a long suffering member of the Melbourne Football Club and I received an email from them the other night about a club auction they are having. From what I can see it is a New Age Caravans Glider 15ft. Current price is only $40,000 and from my research their price at a few shows I've attended is around $60,000.
I have three questions:
(1) has anyone ever purchased a caravan via an auction?
(2) What do you think the best price a good negotiator could buy for?
(3) Has anyone on this forum purchased one of the Glider models?
I have been looking for a caravan for the past 18 months and I think I could pick up a bargain here. Not the exact model I am looking for but if I can save $10,000+ I am more than happy to deal with it.

I must be out of touch with prices but to pay even $40,000 for a 16ft pop top, I find amazing.

Hi David,
Thanks for your advice. From what I have seen at the shows, this isn't a pop top. It has 2 double beds that are at either end of the caravan that fold down. They guys from New Age told me, it's the only one of it's kind in the market that will never leak
Have you seen such a model around before?

Welcome to the gang newadventures, enjoy here and out in the playground.
I would like to think I could get a 15ft van for under $40,000. I didn't pay much more for my 20ft van with full ensuite.
Maybe that footy mob are trying to boost the bank account :) Sorry, had to say something like that before bigB gets in.

Just remember that if you buy at auction, the seller does not need to supply warranty. This may be included in the price of course but make sure before you put a bid in.

my only comment would be to get the "no leak" guarantee in writing.
Ask any manufacturer, and they will all tell you the van will not leak. Unfortunately they are often wrong!
Aside from that, this is a similar type van to the Jayco Expanda, and one or two others on the market, and it is a pop top if it is the unit shown on the site.
Price to me does seem a bit steep, but I haven't looked at this type of unit for a long time.

Be careful with footy club auctions, people get pissed and pay way over the odds for stuff that's auctioned.

For those saying it's a big price for a 15' caravan it is not a simple bodied van with all the accommodation within a 15' shell. It's an expanding van.
Now all you that gave a simple answer, please look up the price of a similar Jayco expander, Windsor Rapid, Avan, Coromal models. Quote the prices of similarly optioned vans. You owe it to a new member to give accurate replies.

Thank you all for your help and advice. I like the look of this van, I maybe able to get it for what could be a bargain and it help my beloved footy club!
As this is my first investment into the caravaning world, I was unsure of how well you can negotiate, like you can in the car market. I thought this could be a good way to get a van for a great price. Last year the Club did the same thing and I noticed it sold for $14k less than market price, so I am hoping for the same thing.
