Hi all,

Need some help in removing the red oxide staining on the leeding edges of galvinised frame. I did a search but came up empty. Googled same and came up with.

1.Ranex by Bondall. From Bunnings. But will it damage the gal ????????????????? Help please.

2. Alu- Clean by Cyndan. again as above.????

3. CT18 truck wash.??????

Your help please if you have had the same experiences and use / results.

Try wd40 , removes paint ,glue and even lubricates,or maybe prepsol.

STOP THE BUS EVERYONE, I brought a 250mm bottle of  Ranex by Bondall at Bunnings this afternoon for $12.29.  On top shelf under rust remover stuff. Read it five times Good for stains Not Good on painted Surfaces, colour bond, or Gal.

So slow and steady boy, we will do a test patch underneath out of site so to speak. Just a dab on a household spong. If this doesn't work I blow $12.29 ( I'm wearing disposable gloves) OMG it just started to wipe of before my eye's. Bucket of water to wash down residue.

OMG  its like brand new again like I had just picked it up from the dealer. I'm on a WINNER here. It says not leave wet, towel it dry. WOW WOW WOW. lets keep going. I just don't belive it. I have done one hour so far changing the water with each section.

By days end tomorrow, I will have back, my camper. JUST added $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$to resale.

The Ranex = Phosphoric Acid Trade strength. So far I have used 25mm of the stuff.

Im so excited I'm taking Lambie out for a feed.

Hi Troupy,

Don't worry applied heaps, and tomorrow will take the camper out of the shed and wash it down continuasly with the hose as I go so not to get it on the paint work.

It so great I sill can't believe it.

 Mate; that is potent stuff. Used to use it back in the 70/80's when doing rust repairs on cars. When all the removing & replaceing of rusted sections we would sand off with a sanding disc ; then mix this acid with water about 10 to 1 & brush it on repaired area to do the final clean, let it dry then wipe off with a damp cloth to leave a coating, very good result before any filling was done.

Dont try spraying it; the fumes will kill you.

How strange this should come up, only a few days back I ran into a guy that ran a chemical store at home where we used to buy it from & had to think hard as to what the name of it was. LOL

If you're all excited about using phosphoric acid, you could have used Coca Cola. 

It contains phosphoric acid. Good stuff.

Your not wrong about  its strength, I'm about to continue on it now, out in the open so I can use the hose at will.

You can under stand why its only found on the top shelf in the store.

PS: use a old tooth brush to scrub it into the metal. It lifts as you watch.You MUST keep the water up to it. Slow as you go. Small section at a time.

There are many different rust removal and rust treatment products available that contain phosphoric acid, with differing strengths. Even, as someone else mentioned, some softdrinks contain small amounts of phosphoric acid.
