As some of you may know, I recently had need of an ambulance to extract me from Wuruma Dam. I had a burst appendix. Many thanks to Julie & Billeeeeeee. They called the ambulance and probably saved my life. In addition Julie accompanied me in the ambulance and ensured I had everything I needed. Except for shoes, and she took her best bling thongs off and lent them to me. They also looked after Mollie ensuring she was fed and exercised and gave her lots of cuddles. I am now on the mend and should be ready to travel again in a couple of weeks.
But for those two I would really have been in trouble. I can't thank you enough Julie & Billeeeeee.
Now, what I really writing about. I received a substantial bill from Queensland Ambulance. (I,'m not complaining, it was well worth every penny) I was advised that Queensland does not have reciprocal arrangements with ACT or Tasmania. Western Australia and South Australia may also be a problem.
So, if you are like me and rely on a Health Card and the pension. Check that you are covered for ambulance services throughout Australia.

Here is some information on the situation regarding Ambulance Cover when requiring an emergency ambulance in QLD -
From my quick Google search of the regulations. it does appear there are slightly differing arrangements for pensioners resident in, or travellers in, other states.
Google provides a full range of information for how each state's ambulance service treats interstate visitors using emergency ambulance services.

We have cover with Vicyoria, seems to be the best we found. Have heard of (and met with )people that had to pay many thousands of dollars exspecially where recovery is needed

Thanks for all that info Mel and good to hear you are recovering from an unwanted experience. I'm sure if J&B were not around any fellow GN would help as much as possible. Always good to see and hear about fellow GN helping each other though.
I also have a Health Care Card but for the little cost involved also keep my Ambulance Cover going and have been told it covers OZ wide. I will double check that though now. Thanks again.

WA covers aged pensioners at home and when visiting other states, seniors get a 50% discount.

Hi all, be careful with Victorian pension coverage interstate, it covers the initial ambulance trip only, if they decide you have to go to another hospital via ambulance/air, you pay unless you have membership of AV (Ambulance Victoria) hope this helps

We travelled through QLD in 2007 and I had cause to use an ambulance twice. One for $900 odd and the other $450 odd.
I sent the bills to my WA Ambulance fund and they paid both bills. <whew>

We got SA Ambulance cover, I was told when we bought it that we were covered all over Australia and air ambulance, flying doctor etc...
I think there may be different "levels" of cover.. I wonder if CIL have that covered? May read the booklet again.

Mel hope you get well soon it's fantastic to have forum friends that will help if needed as Jules and Billeeee did in your case, I thought all pensioners were covered by the pension health care for ambulance, but I have now checked with our private health cover CBHC and we are covered anywhere in Australia (they certainly charge enough)
