It's been a while since there but for memory you might need to cross west over the bridge then turn around and come back to access the Bolti Bridge then all clear form there.

You might also be able to get to the Western Ring Road from where you describe too, then all clear as well.

If you follow the airport signs. One sign goes to Melbourne airport & one goes to Avalon (Geelong). West (Avalon) takes you over the Westgate Bridge and then around the ring road. East takes you over the Bolte bridge and out the Tullamarine freeway and eventually merges with the ring road. There is a bit of room for error here.

Yes Ray...the route you describe is spot on and very easy. You can access the Westgate Bridge from Todd Road and then follow the ring road to the Hume Highway.

its about time they put up a sign at the exit to the ferry wharf saying "escape from Melbourne to XXXX" and escape from Melbourne via our over priced toll roads to ZZZZ".
Sorry VIC people, but your VIC Roads have too many road signs up which just say "C101" or some other route number, rather than a name as well. People from other States are not always used to this and trying to read a map while driving and find the route number on the little green or red line isn't easy.

Don't know what it is about highway numbering here but I always seem to get lost. However, after a couple of work assignments in the US, I managed to get everywhere using Route numbers. Never been able to translate that back to Australia.
What is really annoying here is that you are travelling along a highway with signs showing towns A, B & C. You are aiming for C. Then there is an intersection / junction with A one way & B the other. No mention of C. I finally bought a GPS because I got lost on these circumstances about 5 times in a 12 month period.

Yes. The attached map does not show all the roads but after leaving the ship drive up Beach Road to the first roundabout then turn sharp left, running parallel with Beach Road. Follow the road, past the rear of IGA, through till the end of the high rise, turn left and follow the beach front around. (Good place to park if you arrive early to board the ferry on your return). You will eventually come to Todd Road, as a continuation of the road you will be on. Follow it to the freeway entrance. Once you get over the Westgate bridge keep in left lane as a few km along is a turn off to Geelong, you want the right turn (Left lane) to capture the Hume Freeway via Western Ring Road. Yes, no mistake, you need to be in the left lane to turn right onto the Western Ring Road. The right lane will take you to Geelong. Hope that helps...

We were on the Spirit on 16 June and went the Beach St , Boulevarde, and Tod St route out of Melbourne nut ran into some confusion at the roundabout where Todd St goes under the Highway as there are round works on the roundabout there. Do not take their detour signed route. Turn right at the roundabout as in the past and it will still get you onto the highway.
