Sounds about right. i get around by using a trivet. This stops the bottom burning. Not ideal but at the end of the day it is a BBQ first and foremost.

Thanks I seen on another site cooking pork on a baby q 220 first half hour then turn down to 180 till cooked , Had mine on lowest setting could get it below 290 .

I assume you mean 290F, this would be around 140 - 150c , usually plenty slow enough for an oven, any less you would need a Slow Cooker.
If you mean 290c then you do have a problem, a lot of people cant get the weber that hot.
Mine gets to about 280c on max after 15 minutes and down to 180c on low. If I need less than that I open the lid periodically.

Deltra yes it the built in temperature on the weber get up to 400 in 10 minutes when heating up

Ah Ha The light has just come on for me. After reading this thread I went out and checked my Weber. I had been reading the large Black Letters on the thermometer and it was usually reading 400deg on the big black letters.
I have just gone out and had a look at the thermometer (With my glasses on - Duh) and noticed the centigrade measurements in the small red lettering for the Baby Q. It all make sense now

If too hot, try my trick of sticking a pair of tongs under the lid to raise the lid.
Works well.
