Mackay in Feb will be hot, wet & humid. You may be wading rather than walking.

Could also be very difficult for you with your health fw. It's difficult as it is without that humidity. I don't have that condition but have been around many with it in a previous life.

I don't live in Townsville and fw never said anything about living in Townsville. I only tried to assist with my thoughts (due to a previous life) according to the OP request. If he/she comes from Townsville I understand there would already be local knowledge.
Keep Safe fw.

Hi fw,
Not sure about ensuites, but we've sometimes stayed at the Top Tourist park, just south of the city, off the Bruce H/way, It's called Park, I think, they have spacious drive throughs right by the ablution block which we found convenient. Just a walk across the driveway.
A phone call to them would confirm what they have available, or type in "caravan parks in McKay" and see what comes up.
It's a pretty big park, they may have what you want, also check the Top Tourist and Big 4 web sites, they list all of their parks and facilities.
Hope you find what you need,
Bevan

I suggest Black's Beach CP. Small park with near new facilities.
Ask for a site adjacent to the ablution block.
Quiet and on the beach for a walk if you are so inclined.

Actually Townsville is a bit of an anomaly. It's in a rain shadow. It has a very low humidity compared with the large coastal towns on either side. I first became aware of this in the 60s when I was working in Port Moresby. that is another town that has a completely different climate to the surrounding areas It also is in a rain shadow and does not have the such oppressive climate you experience in the rest of PNG. The boss we had there compared it to Townsville as he had transferred from Townsville to Port Moresby. I have since noted the same thing, one time I was there Townsville had a 7% humidity. Where else would you get that sort of humidity on the coast, even down as far south as Brisbane.
