arrived at the Barcaldine showgrounds this morning for a couple of nights stay and when the council lady came to collect our money ( $26 p/n ) she told us to wash our cars, vans and everything else before we move on as we are heading west as there is a major water shortage all the way thru to Mt Isa. Longreach is trucking water in from Barcaldine. She advised us to make sure our tanks were fully topped up before we leave here.

Why bother washing your rig while traveling in that area? Wash it when you get home. We wash our van about twice a year. Nomads ''keeping up appearances'' waste a huge amount of water in locations where water is at a premium. BE WATER WISE while visiting dry areas & don't judge people by how clean their rig is. LOL.

we wont be washing car or van as they will both only look the same as they do now in another 100klm so why expend the energy. We did was the windscreen of the car though and wow it made a difference.

Some how I don't think JackieP really thought about washing the rig , the point being was one should prepare for a waterless area.
However it was good to be advised about the water shortage .
Longreach is indeed short of water ,farmers are devastated ,
cattle and sheep have either died or have been taken to agistment else where.
I was thinking of going back out there soon ,
Does any one know what is happening at the Loyd Jones weir just out of Barky..is there many campers there ?
Are there showers and toilets there & drinking water.
