where to park while waiting to board the sprit in melbourne

Hi Guys
you can park on Beach St (look up Google Maps) you do need to get in early and it is paid parking approx $12 per day. There is a nice pub further down over looking the bay which does a decent lunch.

I would recommend not to get there too early Blaze. Check out the map I have added. The site near Toll Shipping would be the less stressful with a 24ft caravan. There is plenty of parking off the edge of the road once you turn around. Next would be in the residential areas. I have parked here last time I came home with a 5th wheeler. It is a little tight but it is pretty quiet and virtually no traffic. Park up for hour an hour and make a cup of coffee. Don't head towards the pier till after 5.00pm. There will be plenty of time to board.
Same area as Chris61, but I think you may actually be able to park your rig in The Boulevard (just west of the terminal) and have a picnic in the park on the foreshore. It's where some triatholons are run from so there is a reasonable amount of large parking.

thanks to all, it should be the same as the Tassie end, no problems that end, if a little country like Tassie can supply ample pre boarding parking you would think an island like Australia would be able to

Definitely the best way to leave the port in a larger vehicle and is the main exit to/from the port for large vehicles (busses trucks). When arriving, need to look for the FERRY symbols as you come over Westgate Bridge. I think there maybe truck & van parking in and around the Todd Road Service Centre as you slip off to the left. Otherwise continue around to The Boulevard to park. The road from the Boulevard to the port is drivable but it's narrow, full of roundabouts, and speed humps, and not large vehicle friendly.

It may be 7pm sailing but you start to load from about 4pm. We are going over next Feb and I intend to be then before 12, park up and then go for a lunch. I think from memory parking is $3 per hr but about $12 per day. I intend to pay the $12 and get a decent park Then a decent lunch.
With a the 24' van you can go right up to the ferry terminal (the street name changes close to the terminal) and go around the roundabout and park opposite the ferry in front of the shops. It may pay to do a Google Street view and get comfortable with the area.
I was there in Feb this at 11:30am and vans where starting to park up then.

Done the trip quite a few times but never with a 24 foot van, I quite enjoy the rough trips as most people tend to hibanate. I sleep on the 9th deck in my sleeping bag but don't try until after 11pm as security move you on, never had a ploblem after. When the spirits were first on route the back section on the 8th deck was more open and have seen water coming over that part.

ps done a new years eve crossing in 2000 and there was a bomb hoax mid trip, that was interesting
