Hi all, new to the Grey Nomads even though been this colour for a while would like to start the journey in a single vehicle either a slide on or camper van just looking for some feed back the pros an cons the good or bad experiences.cheers Ian see you some where some place soon

G'day Ian and welcome to the crowd. There are many here who will assist you. I prefer a caravan now but started out with a wind up Jayco Finch bur as we got older now have a Jayco Stirling with combined toilet/shower.

Welcome Ian,
We had a slide on for about 8 years, longest trip of 5months really good. Flexible too as if the need arose we would put it onto a tandem trailer and tow as a caravan and free to load up the ute independently. Now have 22ft Seabreeze but loved the slide on which had a spacious layout for such a small unit. not like many a slide on that seem cramped for space. What ever you choose enjoy.

I too prefer a full CV. I started out 4 years ago with a Avan Camper Trailer but early November last year changed to a CV. I prefer the CV as I can leave that somewhere and go exploring etc in my tug.

We owned a slide-on for 12 years.
Compared to a motor home, there are very few advantages with a slide-on and many disadvantages that include......
Higher centre of gravity (tanks are much higher).
Higher weight (extra "body" or tray).
Higher height for same head room.
Getting on and off is a pain and we eventually fixed ours to the vehicle permanently.
Never 'ready to go' when you need it.
More expensive to register in some States (motorhome rego is often cheaper).

G'day Ian.We are on cv number 7.Before updating we thought through all the pros and cons.Campervan can restrict you in many ways if is quite large (my opinion ).Where to park for shopping,having to pack EVERY time you move and limits your freedom to discover this great island.Slide ons can be ok if vehicle is roomy after dropping the slideon,i.e.,twin cab.My thoughts on camper trailers are negative though we meet many on our travels.I would hate to have to put up or pack up in the rain.We finally purchased a 26ft Spaceland Deluxe which is very comfortable.We free camp often and have been on the road this trip since last July from North Queensland and have only reached Bussellton W.A.You can click on search and pose the question.Best wishes and happy travels.

"Campervans" don't have to be large to provide comfort.
The OKA in the avatar on the left is under 6m and has shower, toilet and N-S bed always made up. It will go places that no caravan will go.
Anything under 6m can be parked in the street or shopping centre in a standard car park.
I would strongly advise against a slide-on fitted to a dual cab. The weight is far too far back.
