We've a Millard Weekender and keen to dispense with the foam mattress that it came, second hand, with. We're on the South Coast of NSW and a search on Google gives supplies "pick up" from Melbourne. Freight would be a consideration from there and we won't be visiting Melbourne for a year or two. Sydney's fine and we will be in Brisbane in July. We're looking for an inner spring. Any recommendations?
Thanks.
Graeme

Gday...
Firstly -
This mob are not on NSW South Coast by the look of them but are in Newcastle - freight might be cheaper than Melbourne.
Or pick up on the way to QLD or in Brisbane when you get there perhaps.
I think I have seen recommendations for this mob from some on here previously - if not, I am sure we will hear
It is not much good to you I guess, but I used Beds Direct in Epping Vic (Melbourne outer suburb). I have been using their "made to our measure" inner-spring single bed mattresses for almost seven years and they are still like new.
I believe there are a couple of other mattress makers - someone on here will let us know.
Cheers - John

Went through this process last year, priced many suppliers but freight to the NT tripled the price. Went into a "Clark Rubber" store to get a length of door seal rubber & lo & behold they have inner spring mattresses. Fitted two singles into our almost queen sized bed in the motorhome, super comfortable, great price & good quality.

Welcome to the gang Graeme, enjoy here and out in the playground.
I only just today after looking around for a week ordered a new comfy made to order innerspring mattress for my van. The two supplied at new were cheap innerspring. The new one is far from cheap but should be worth the $$$$ as I am full time on the road. I am only replacing one mattress though. I had to settle for a size slightly smaller due to the spring system.
I just went into a bed place and one supplier would make to my size needed.

BT owner with tight access up to the bed due to cupboards and opposite side shower installation. No option to get a full size mattress in.
ALDI had evacuated rolled up innerspring mattresses on sale a couple of weeks ago. Bought two queens - one to try out in the home and one in reserve for the van if the first one worked out OK. So far the trial unit is proving to be more than comfortable so it is likely that the foam mattress is for the scrap heap. Cost is very reasonable - around $200 a unit as I recall - and the comfort is fine.
The rolled up pack is the length of the small side of the mattress and is a doddle to get through to the bed - bit heavy but the box has roller wheels to assist. Only problem will be the need to cut it up to remove it down the track at some stage.
regards,
John

Hi Graeme,
Not sure where you are on the South coast NSW but there are a number of suppliers you might wish to check out. Canberra has makin mattresses and Clarke rubber. Nowra has numerous suppliers as do Batemans Bay and Eden. Memory foam is excellent now with technology advances so you should not dismiss it out of hand.
Here's some contacts.
Luxafoam Batemans Bay (02) 4472 4977
Clarke Rubber Fyshwick (ACT) 02 6280 6818
Makin mattresses Canberra 02 6280 5445
Hope you find something to suit
cheers

Well, thank you all very much. I didn't expect such a response. Very pleasing. I'll measure up today & see what I can do with the suggestions. I'll put memory Foam back on the list as well.
We're just east of Nowra, (Greenwell Point)

i was in the mattress game for 40 yrs and made to measure in clontaff are your best bet. 4" high springs instead of 6" if you want and made in 2 pieces if needed to get into your van. plus of course the ability to choose what ever surface feel you prefer

Please remember.
If you are replacing a foam mattress/s with an inner spring one/s you are, most likely, increasing the weight of your caravan by anything from 30kg up to 200kg depending on size and quality of the new mattress.
