The local indigenous group is protesting against the proposal to shut down some isolated, small communities. This started in WA, but is being protested nationally.
The small communities are started by disgruntled or family groups from larger established communities.
To establish these small groups of a few as 20 people the Government has to provide a generator and the fuel for the power supply, water and housing etc.

I also demand that our free camps have power and hot and cold running water as well as a phone and tv satellite.
Perhaps the closure of the bridge is a way to highlight the protesters' situation, just as lots of others do from time to time.
A pain in the a** I suppose, especially for heavy vehicle operators .... some of who may be carrying goods that eventually end up in remote communities.
I too have concerns about the cost to the economy in providing 'City' services to remote locations as a 'right'. If for whatever reason I choose to live in certain locations then I choose to except a trade off in reduced access to services in return for whatever lifestyle benefits I gain from living there.
eg. I'd love to live in a small coastal community on a large farm block (yes I can afford to buy one), but I realize that at my time of life, I need to be close to medical & transport services, so I live on my 30 perch block in the 'burbs'.

and of course the sign that's still there says it all. its all Abbotts fault. More a political noise than for their cause. Strange how many local aboriginal people I know here stayed away saying it won't help their cause

It is disappointing to read these sort of comments, its way past time to grow up.
I apologise for the late notice.

Get the facts straight please before jumping on the bandwagon....I did and the bridge in question is to be closed today for one hour between 10.30 and 1130AM for a protest march.
