My method with a handshake is to match the strength of the other persons handshake, particularly if they are female, nothing worse than someone trying to show how strong they are by crushing the other persons hand.
As a general rule of mine a firm handshake is best and to me signifies a person is genuine, not keen on the "limp fish" handshake some give...

You must remember in PNG, Vic, no firm handshakes there. Just basically a touching of hands.

I wonder how you would be meeting a Maori Chief in kiwi-land VIC, No shaking of the hand there, it's all nose to nose,
They probably wouldn't take to kindly to you, if you were to give their nose a squeeze to see how firm it was. LOL

Hi Vic .I,m with you insofar as a handshake should be" fair dinkum " that is to say if I get a feeling about someone real Quick on meeting them and somethings not right I just say Gday . However if I feel good I shake their hand.In fact when I purchased my last caravan 2 years ago I said that I would take the van except that I had to build a shed for it and it would be about 5 weeks ,no problems he said see you in 5 weeks then.What about a deposit I said ,why ? aren,t you coming back he said ! I said I will see you in 5 weeks but I need to shake your hand because I am old fashioned and my hand is my bond ! fair enough he said .So in 4 weeks I returned with a bank Chq for the full amount and drove home with my new Van.But then that's country folk for you .Cheers John

I fully agree re a fair dinkum handshake and what it tells you of the other person, HOWEVER it does not apply to lawyers, car salesmen, politicians or insurance assessors all of who have perfected how to appear fair dinkum whilst pulling the wool over your eyes.

Hmmmm......as I get a runny nose often I don't know I would be that welcome giving a nose job either, but who "nose"..
