Travelling to the area and wanting to gem fossick, what do you recommend? Glen Innes or Inverell? Can anyone tell us about the caravan parks or free camps in the areas?
Thanks everyone in advance, as I know you are all so helpful.

They are both bloody freezing cold ATM so take your warmest winter (read snow) clothes
We have often stayed at the Sapphire city park in Inverell, very neat place, pleasant staff and was $28/n/pwd/2A less a Top Tourist discount if you are a member.
Close to town but quiet enough at night.

Sapphire City CVP in Inverell is a great park. I have stayed there twice and enjoyed both times. Get a sight over near the pool on the grass area. Old piano in the rec/kitchen area if you want to tickle the ivory. The couple running the place are/were real nice. I say maybe, were, as they were trying to sell the place at the time I visited. The park is away from all the noise of the town. Nice town too. Lovely stroll down by the river in the park area, real nice.

Thanks Doug. I was looking at Fossickers Rest 3 km out of town on the lake which looked alright too. Would you go to Inverell over Glen Innes?
Cheers Lorraine

yeah I will, it will snow in Nundle tonight. ask Pelbo he lives there now.
Doug the park was sold to a major company and there is now a resident manager in. He was pleasant enough when I was last there earlier this year.
Wayne and Jenny have moved to Qld but I forget what business they were buying into.

Both nice places but I really liked the CVP I mentioned so go to Inverell.
Now I could be way off track here but I thought I read somewhere just recently that the Fossickers Rest had closed. Maybe five them a buz 0267222261. If I am off track it will be KFT or B&B's fault

RodLainieWe are currently farm sitting near Delungra about 40k west of Inverell. There are several sites around Glen Innes and Inverell where you can fossick, some paying some free. You can get brochures from the tourist info at either. Further west from Inverell is Delungra, where you can showground camp, and Warialda. Just before you get to Warialda, there is a sign post to Cranky Rock Reserve. There is cheap camping there with/without power Around Warialda there are three areas on the river where you can fossick for free. Brochure available from info centre. Also a free camp at a rest area on the east side of Warialda near one of the fossicking areas. there is also fossicking at Bingara, and plenty of freedom camps along the river.
I would be more specific, but I have just packed away all our brochures, ready for our move tomorrow.
Can't comment on any of the caravan parks, however the showgrounds at G I looks clean - we walked through it a few weeks ago when we went to the Celtic Festival. I think prices start around $20.00 www.gleninnesshowground.com
Temps here currently have been around 15-20 during the day, this morning outside it got down to 3 degrees. Beautiful sunny skys.
Hope this helps.

Just thought I would mention that this caravan park on the lake - is on the lake, which is beautiful. Also, weather wise, I would choose Inverell if you are concerned about the cold as it is not as high in altitude.
