I have had two reversing cameras that have stopped working on my caravan after a couple of months of use.
I run them constantly when driving and am thinking they may be burning out.
Does anyone else have this issue?

Hi Nage. Your cameras aren't burning out as they are solid state and don't have the components to cause them to burn out. But you get what you spend on cameras like anything else.
Is your camera had wired right back to your tow vehicle or are you trying to do it wirelessly?
If you had them installed professionally, I would be going back to the installer. Unless the cameras are cheap junk, its more likely that you have a wiring or power supply problem.
If a camera is properly installed and is of reasonable quality (even though made in China lol) it should keep going for years

Thanks for your reply to my issue.
The camera is hard wired.
I brought the caravan (used) with the camera installed and have been replacing, like for like cameras.
It is not the wiring, as I connect the new camera and it works.

Hi Nage,
Even though the camera is working when you plug it in, the wiring could still be the problem. If there is a loose wire causing an intermittent connection for example, that could be killing the camera. If that's the case, I would expect the picture on your monitor to flicker occasionally.
If the picture is nice and solid until the point that the camera fails it could be an over voltage issue, caused by an incorrect of faulty power supply.
Another possibility is that the camera that was on the vehicle is not designed for the monitor it's connected to, which would explain the repeat failures when you replace it with the same camera.
If you can let us know the make and model of the camera and the other modules in the system that would help a lot.

Hi Nage,
I had the same issues two years back . Hard wired through the barn door on a new cruiser GX. I did not allow enough cable the first time and a small kink was the outcome. another $59.00 from Repco and never happened again.

I have been running a Sony camera on the back of my van for the past 5-6 years the camera is on the whole time I am driving, its solid wired and the only problem that I have experienced it where the plug from the Tug and the plug from the van connect this generates a blue screen and no flickering just no picture I replace the RCA plug and works ok but now going to try different type of plug.
