Yes ding, its a shame the mines been technically closed, still operating, lots of empty houses, no clubs, no pubs., there's a church, used to be the cop shop., the town is run by the locals trying to keep it operating,

we stayed there overnight recently. Great place and so well looked after by the locals - donation for water, clean toilet, shower water heated by the hot earth and sun, great kitchen with gas cooking
Some people on wikicamps reckon the locals are feral - we didn't see them, but most of the houses looked like theyd fall down in a strong wind and obviously a few eccentrics judging by their "business" interests.
Mine is still kind of operating and those working there seem to think they own the town judging by the way they drove around.
But 1000% better than any S.A rest area!
We'd stay again........and remember a donation if you stay there, otherwise it will close down. No shops

Frangipani,
Just have to say, your photos are fantastic. The clarity and colouring bring everything to life.
