I got my letter today. Actually my daughter rang me and told me it's contence. It stated that Holden do not have the part needed to do the job properly until July so will contact those effected again to arrange for the fix. Yep, mine is one for sure.
I rang Holden in Townsville and they said the same thing. Not believing any of this I rang Holden in Ballina, just down the road from here in Down Town Byron Bay, NSW south coast and they said the same thing.
I had a look at my battery and alternator area and all seems ok, no cable rubbing against metal etc so should be OK. Holden also reckon it is not as bad as been made out but I spose they would say that?

Slightly off topic Doug but I have a similer experience with my Jeep.
I received a recall notice for some problem with the ignition switch but Chrysler don't have the part to carry out the repair.
I do not have a problem with my ignition switch.
Regards Chris

No problem with going off topic in my threads Chris, they always get back "on topic" in the end.

Funny that Dougwe - I got my letter today as well
- As you say - recall but not being handled as urgent - I'm guessing they will probably fix it at my next service

Now you know the problem you can add an insulating piece between the wire and the metal that is likely to rub through the insulation. This will prevent fires until you get the second recall for the work to be done.

Hey Doug, go to Bunnings and get some conforming emergency repair tape it sticks to itself and conforms to whatever you attach it to, also has great heat and insulation properties, I agree with PeterD that should tide you over, however I would be checking for rubbing right along that cable every so often.
Good luck with that mate, all jokes aside be safe my friend
Cheers

I'd be very careful about applying any type of tape to the cables in that area because it's probable that one or more are fusible links and taping over them can cause them to overheat with the opposite result to that which you seek to avoid. I'd also imagine Holden would not like DIY jobs on something that was subject to an official recall no matter how good your intentions are.
Good Luck.

Thanks guys for all the great input. I only just now had a phone call from the dealer I bought the Collie from as I had rang them yesterday about the recall and another tiny problem with a canopy lock. They said they have ordered a new lock for me and will be waiting for my arrival next week.
They also assured me that there is nothing to get worried about as the media has as usual made a mountain out of a mole hill. Still, I will keep an eye on things in the mean time. They also said they will check it when in for the lock.
Just as little side detour, weather is just magnificent here in Byron Bay
