We have recently acquired a 2011 Jayco Starcraft with two 90 ltr water tanks. It has 3 clear plastic sight tubes. Two would be for the amount of water in the separate tanks but what is the third (middle one) indicating? Also the four position, 3 way plastic switch under the side of the van, does it have any effect when filling the tanks? It appears not to, irrespective of it's position I cannot fill just one tank of choice. I think that the switch may only control from where water is being used, could that be possible? It is not that obvious to me either where to set it to, to use one tank before the other. Cheers Steve.
One goes to the pump (centre one I think)...the other 2 from either tank. The arrow points to whichever tank you are drawing out of. Common sense would say that rear hose is rear tank etc etc.....but on my van ...it is actually arse about ...go figure LOL.

As Keith says above - the left and right hoses are from the tank and the middle is the one which goes to your pump! It has nothing to do with the water in. Turn the black arrow to the tank you want to draw water from.
I got sick of crawling under the van, so changed the location so that the plastic selector was located inside the van - just before the pump.

the pointer at 12 o'clock = both tanks off , pointer at 3 o'clock = front tank , pointer at 6 o ,clock = both tanks on, (water being drawn from both tanks at once ) pointer at 9 o'clock = rear tank. when trying to fill one tank only do not have both tanks turned on as you will find that one tank will slowly decanter into the other, also do not travel with both tanks turned on as if one should be damaged and lose all its water the other tank will also lose all its water, not good
so far Iv,e lost three tanks to stone damage over the years. and they all had good stone protection fitted

When the pointer is pointing down, both tanks are interconnected. When you fill one tank it will run through to the other. If you only wish to fill and use one tank then turn the pointer to that tank. When you fill that tank then water will not run through to the other one.

We have a Starcraft but it has one 80ltr water tank. Where are the two tanks actually located? and do you think we need to add an extra water tank to our Starcraft. We are planning to do a 1/2 lap later this year

How much water do you need per day. We live out of a car only & use 2.5 to 3.0 litres each per day while remote. The most we can reasonably carry without getting in the way is 65 litres. There are enough towns to buy water. You really don't want to be carting around too much.
thanks for the reply you make perfect sense. I feel I am not alone when planning a trip and making sure we have enough. What becomes what we need become will I need this and that and maybe this and what we end up doing is taking wayyy to much and creating wayyy too much weight which then has the obvious side effects of weight and fuel consumption and carting too muc stuff to clutter our lives. *frown* Hmmm am I talking my life in general of just this trip? I shall ponder that more *lol*. If you had of asked me 3 weeks ago I would have said we have enough as the 80 litres of water we carry lasted us 5 weeks on our last venture into Qld. Mind you we did a reasonable amount of staying in caravan parks and not, as we are planning this trip more free camping sites.
So thanks for allaying my fears and backing up my gut feel.
