At the prices we pay in the supermarkets, someone is making a bucket of money out of these workers for sure. Got to be investigated. Also the backpackers, sometimes they are exploited badly.

Have already posted this elsewhere. Wish some-one in power would finally listen, and act.
This has been going on for years !!! It gets dragged out periodically, but no Government ever seems to have the guts to do anything about it. Just another reason why every worker in this country should have to be a member of a Union to get a job.
This sort of thing is why Unions were formed in the first place. Wake up Australia.
Cheers

I watched the 4 Corners program on this tonight, it was disgusting the way these workers are being treated and as Australians we should be ashamed we are letting it happen, see;
I'll bet there is a desperate meeting today between Coles/Woolworths and Aldi who were all 'mentioned in despatches', and appeared as guilty as each other...turning a blind eye just like the owners of the various food Company's who remove all responsibility from themselves, by hiring work ""Contractors"" who change guise frequently every few months so they can't be pinned down.....just like the Greyhound Industry, all it takes is a few undercover cameras/reporters to expose their rorts.....
They will no doubt work out a combined strategy as to how to make it all palatable to consumers......
Little wonder G/N's find it now difficult to find these """jobs""" ...how do you compete with 18 hour days/7 days a week for $18 down to $3.50 hour, accommodation rental of $125 each for ten to a dwelling and even a horse barn for up to 20!...
Welcome to the new Australia...Greed/Power/Exploitation and no doubt corruption on multi levels....glad I'm at the twilight of my life however I worry for my grandkids futures...Hoo Roo

One of the reasons I posted this subject was so GN's working on the move would know what they were up against.
Did you see where one of the labour contractors said not to employ European backpackers because they were onto them about their scamming etc after some English backpackers took them to task.

This has been going on for many years. I use to do payrolls in my other life and Rod &I worked as a casual for a company and I spoke to them about wages super etc. I also spoke with the overseas workers about their rights and they ended up go to fair works.They had to back pay.Language barrier was a problem but at least 30 workers were given the right pay. Did the company like me, no way but these blo.... Contractors are a huge problem.
Yip they are picked up in those buses and crammed into housing.Yes they work long hours and is damn disqusting. I will continue to make sure on our travels that these overseas people realise what is happening and warn them.

Aussie market gardeners employing slave labour! Woolworths, Coles and Aldi are up to their ears in it.

On radio today in Ballarat we heard a specialist legal commentator state that "it's the farmer's responsibility" to make sure the workers on their property are paid appropriately.
We had the same advice years ago when we paid principle contractors and they wouldn't pay subbies for months.
Legislation was changed to address this.
