I'm at Tallangatta Showground. Powered site $20.00 first night, thereafter $15.00 Dump Point and hot showers. Leaving tomorrow for Lightning Creek for one night, then on to Bairnsdale. Can't get TV but Telstra signal is strength 5.
Great Alpine Hwy is the better road according to local Police, but I'm taking the Omeo Hwy. Less likelihood of snow and ice on the roads. Snow forecast tomorrow down to 1400 meters but the highway is lower than that so should be ok.

Gday...
BG - I would never think about trying to 'override' the local gendarmes but from memory (which is probably out of date a bit) the Omeo Hwy has quite a bit of unsealed road in the middle.
I am also assume you are aware of the forecast for the next couple of days - severe weather (wind, rain and some hail)
Take it slow and if you have chains and the road is suspect put them on and travel Slower..

Does get more windy past Lightening Creek so as they always say, drive to conditions. As a passenger I saw more scenery than the driver, thank heavens!!!! But it is beautiful. Would you be so kind to let us know how you got on? Please?
Yes Jules drove from Mt. Beauty to Rocky Dam just past Fall Creek last week without the caravan on that was a hard drive lots of Bicycle on the road and having to cross over the middle line lots of times to pass them .

No can't say it the way the locals do. Stayed overnight at Lightning Creek. Great spot. The Omeo Hwy. is one hell of a road. Very narrow and winding and yes, had a lot of wind. Very scary looking over the edge of the road. Passed a couple of log trucks and a couple of caravans taking the chance. By comparison would rather land a 747 at the old Kai Tak (Hong Kong) with rain and strong cross wind any day. I travelled the Omeo once, but no more. Currently at Genoa at the abandoned caravan Park. Will go back to McCann Caravan Park after leaving Genoa. $20.00 for powered site. Washing is starting to accumulate !!
