We're currently in Mildura VIC and for the past week, lots of volunteers have been selling tiny badges. But NO poppies !!
Whats gone wrong..............the red poppy is special to ANZAC - not a tiny little badge.
Would like to hear from someone in an RSL who can explain why the poopy (in VIC anyway) has been dumped for a little badge (which is no doubt made in China)

The red poppy has always been sold for Remembrance Day not ANZAC Day. Always buy a little badge for ANZAC Day and a red poppy for Remembrance Day

They are Flanders poppies I think you are asking about. My mum used to recite a poem about them.
In Flanders fields the poppies grow, among the crosses row on row. I took these photos of them in France.
It is so sad that all that killing didn't really stop mankind from continuing on with wars. I love the poppies though.
Get a packet of seeds, and grow some..... They look so beautiful!
Thanks for your constructive and helpful replies Pete and Andrew - now I know :)

Bev, I put a link to a project with poppies undertaken in Melbourne on "I Digress" but I shall add it here - it was an amazing achievement and looked absolutely fabulous.
