We have used a length of flexi pipe like in the report one end it was fitted into a milo tin with heaps of nail holes in it and the tin was either fill with steel wool or stones the end of the flexi pipe was reduced down to fit into the existing muffler exhaust outlet.
For additional sound deadening dig a hole and bury the milo tin, a word of caution when digging the hole if you see tree roots, don't bury it, it may cause an underground fire.
you will need to experiment to find the correct amount of filler in the milo tin, so the back pressure is not increased too much

Should help the green houses gases no end, dunno about the engine though. Like us, they have to breathe in..... and out!

That's a great idea - now I need one for the chainsaw and generator when camping, at home one for the leaf blower, whipper snipper, hedge trimmer and the mower. Then again, everything except the generator can be substituted with an electric version so really just one would do. I like Gundogs suggestion too....feed the exhaust into one of those meat ant nests.

No need for any of this stuff really. Just use your generator about 3.00am and no one will hear it, as the will all be asleep.

We were parked next to a bloke last winter in SA. He started his genny at 3 am, I thought about using the half a cup of water trick. It gives you enough time to get back to bed before the water reaches the carby.
I know people who have done that, but I would not.

Having spent many years servicing small engines I can assure you that any additions to the mufrfler may result in a noise reduction, but is guaranteed to result in severely burnt exhaust valves and seats. Far better idea is to buy a quality/name brand machine. And if any one wants some exitement try the cup of water trick in my genny if you reckon you can outrun my two dogs.

Bury the whole engine, that usually fixes the problem and we can all go back to sleep.

Guys, let's remember many older people must run 240V in order to keep their breathing machines operational - as for contaminating someone's Genny not only are you risking a dog latching onto your a#se, you are risking prosecution for; at a minimum malicious damage - or in the case of stopping someone's breathing equipment anything from reckless endanderment to manslaughter. I've personally found most Nomads are considerate of others with regard to positioning their Gennys that need to be run overnight.
