I haven't been there myself, but my sister went through there recently and most of it is now fenced off and there's a sign saying no camping, and another say 20 hours maximum stay. Which is what I think is termed an oxymoron.

Yes drove through there early March on a day trip.
Barriers have been put up so you can't camp in the area behind the toilet black and picnic table. This area is now for day use only.
In saying that someone had removed several of the bollards and a caravan and a motorhome were parked along the fence.
With the bollards in place there is only a small area to camp in now.
I believe that the no camping sign relates to the area that was supposedly barricaded off for day use only.
The sign near the toilet block said maximum stay of 72 hours applied.
I know that there has been ongoing problems with people taking no notice of the 72 hr limit
They will eventually stuff it up for everyone and the site will be closed to camping.

I had previously searched to see if anyone else had posted about this, and came across this post by kandagal dated 22/3/14. If his story is a taste of what's been happening there, the new rules are understandable.
It's a real shame because it's a lovely quiet spot.

Sorry to say Beth
People were mis using the place staying there for months in tents with a bunch of dogs also
we were staying there with Yeoeleven last year when the Gympie counsil werkers came around to close
the site
At this moment we are still able to camp there but only for 20 hrs and only past the toilet block
you will be flat out parking 3 vans with tugs in front
so the fun is really out of it to stay there
Its a real pitty,another good site closed du to low lifes
we used to go there often just for a week r&r
and sorry this one wont be the last one I Think
Du to stupidity many will follow soon

There was still a sign near the toilet block stating a maximum stay of 72 hours applied as at 11/03/15.
I believe that this sign has been there for several years, but was ignored by many.

you're right mate 72 hrs sorry for my mistake
that sign was only put up the day they closed the area off on the Friday
we left on the Sunday
as we were the last ones that had to put the lock on the gate when we left

All this is good information but would be even better if camp spot of interest were identified as being in an area recognisable to most nomads. In this case my search was avoided by a reply that mentioned Gympie council workers but I am not always that lucky. I am slightly embarrassed to say that I don't live very far from Gympie so some readers might have had more problems than me.... and a better excuse.

My mistake in transit.
This place has been discussed many times in the past so I didn't think about the fact that not everyone would know about it.
But then I've not been on much and I now realise there's a whole lot of new folks on here.
I don't like it when others post about a place and don't say which state etc, so my apologies.
Oh and if you live near Gympie, go and check it out because the story behind the building of the bridge is very interesting.

I would like to take the time to thank the people in person who help have this area shut down.
We visited this area last July, found a fire still going, 2 holes one behind the other dug to level the van, was told those responsible were not good company but had spent a fair bit of money on there gear but trash the area.
Said to friends at the time I bet this area will be shut down soon, even after we cleaned around the area.
So once again I like to say thank you to you. Ralph.

I doubt they'd be reading this Radar. I like to think OUR Grey Nomads have more respect for their surroundings.
