A friend has just purchased a Rav4 and the tow bar has been welded on. She has been told it is not supposed to be and is not safe. Any advice if this is true or not.
Thanks

Cannot see this being legal in a pink fit never seen one welded on anything always bolted I would be taking the car back to the dealer and getting my money back ( it's not fit for purpose ) as it should not have passed a roadworthy in my opinion but go to a garage that does roadworthy certificates and just ask he should be able to tell you what is legal or not for free .

There can be lots of welding on the tow bar. I find it hard to imagine the towbar being welded to the car. The car sub frame (rav4) is no more than pressed sheet metal.
Some photos would be interesting.
If it welded to the sub frame I wouldn't be hooking any thing to it.
Cheers Pete

Most sub frames or chassis on vehicles are high tensile steel, not recommended to weld.

Thanks all, when I passed on the info it appears it is only the ball that is welded on....

To stop theft ?? . In this case I guess it's ok as long as it's bolted as well ?
