We have been reading topics on this website for a while, and now have the desire to join in. Both of us are in our early 50's and want to enjoy what life has to offer on the road.
The biggest decision we are coming to terms with is, if we should sell the house and have no worries (money) or keep it for a rainy day???? means we would have to work a bit.
Any advise will be appreciated.
Hope to meet you on the road sometime

G'day and welcome. You are younger than me and mine but I am scared to sell up to be on the road full time. I feel at some time we will not be able to be in vans forever then we would have to buy at inflated prices. We are only on the road for about 6 moths at a time so we prefer to have some one to house sit. We will always have a base to come back to. Rainy days could also include personal accidents. What ever you decide get out there and do it. I wish to bloody hell I could have done it at your age. Hope to meet you on the road sometime
Cheers

Welcome to the gang Wayne n Dianne, enjoy here and out in the playground.
I am one that sold up an hit the road full time. I am also another one that is much older than you, not that that matters though.
Since loosing my lovely wife nearly 4 years ago now, plus the loss of my son and step son, all within 3 years, I was away from home 8 months out of 12 each year. So about this time last year, 2014, I decided to sell base camp, update the tug and den to what is in my signature. I didn't do it in that order though due to having tug problems on my up to the tripcal climates in Nth Queensland.
I updated the Tug then when I got back to home base in Sth West Gippsland VIC, I updated the Den then put the house on the market while that was being built. Within 2 weeks, yes 2, I was out in the playground as a full time grey nomad living in my Avan Camper Trailer until the den was finished. I picked that up November last year and haven't looked back once.
I am currently house sitting near Ulladulla, NSW south coast and look at my van in the driveway every day and say, gee I miss being in that. That tells me I have done the right thing I reckon.
Enjoy whatever you decide and keep safe.

Hi Wayne and Dianne, and welcome to the forum,we rent our house out for the extra income and also like the idea of having a place to come back to when we get to old to travel.
I think that once you get out of the houseing market ,it is very difficult to get back into again, but then everyone is different.
I"m sure whatever decision you make it will be the right one for you.

Hi Wayne & Dianne
My husband and I are asking the same questions too! We are in our late 40's worked ourselves to death in the last 5 years, so we are yearning for a life on the road. We have two kids, who are in the process of leaving home, so we have given ourselves a year and a half to sell all of our investments and our own home and take off for a couple of years, maybe picking up work here and there after we have 12 months off. I have found this site fantastic with loads of information so counting down until we can get out there and travel.
All the best with your decision.

Hi Mel
We have put the house on the market, hopefully it will not take to long to sell, i believe the decision to sell the house was a easy one as it will give us peace of mind having the money in the bank so to speak, it is just what to do with all the little things that makes who we are after a life time of collecting?. Thankfully our sons have agreed to look after the stuff, if after a few years on the road we decide that this is the full time life we want we can get rid of it all.
Hope to see you on the road sometime.
