I have put off adding this to the list because it is not cheap.
Just the cheapest in town.
$25 per night inc. power.
Amenities are old & dodgy but very clean.
At the tourist info center staff showed us a sign behind the counter telling staff to not send people there unless they had "working dogs".
Not the case according to the showgrounds caretaker. Everyone welcome.
The CPs in town are asking a lot more per night & we saw line-ups to get in each afternoon.
The Roadhouse just up from the showgrounds allows free camping but not really good as a base to look around.

Gday...
Camped last night here in the Goondiwindi Showgrounds.
Still $25/night but there is now a brand new amenities block - three showers and two toilets for Male & Female ... and a toilet/shower for disabled folk.
About five other campers here overnight, very quiet, good flat open ground, plenty of power and water taps and plenty of room for big rigs and buses.
Whilst $25 may seem a bit high for showground camping, as Chopit says, it is the cheapest in town.
Cheers - John

Pulled in to Showgrounds Sat 3 Sep 2016 to camp overnight. Only just pulled in next to power and got out and a fighting dog approached and was extremely aggressive towards me. Went over to men's shed to ask if anyone new the payment arrangements. Then enquirerd if anyone new the owner of dog. Was abused by a very aggressive brother in law of the dogs owner when I said the dog needs to be on a lead to stop it doing the same to other campers. Then I was told by him and a men's shed fellow to F off out of the place. Saw caretaker who is a really nice bloke. He took me over to them to be agressively abused again. Caretaker had already told them twice to put dog on lead because of other complaints. I left and went elsewhere to camp. Never again. Boof head dogs and their red neck owners roaming everywhere there. As others have said, it's not cheap anyway.

This dog was not running loose, but was on a very long lead - a man walking by was attacked by the dog - think it was a bulldog - badly scratched his leg - drew blood. Told the people to keep their dog on a shorter lead in camps. All ok - but shows that even tied up, some dogs are "protective" of their property.
As for the boofheads - or red necks - come across a lot like that - think they own the place.

Hi Jules 47. Sounds like a different dog. The one I referred to was running loose for days apparently. It had a crack at a woman the day before and she said the dogs owners went into town and left them running loose while they were gone. Caretaker told them twice to put it on its lead. It's owner wouldn't have let you suggest shortening the lead without giving you a huge mouthful of abuse. When The caretaker took me over to them to sort it out he called me a lying c.... In front of his wife and sister inlaw. Then proceeded to enter my personal space at which point I told him if he come any closer I would consider it as a threat. A bit of advice Mr bigmouth redneck. You're only a fairies breath away from making the six o'clock news if your dog attacks a little kiddie and mauls them. That can be jail time if it's bad enough not to mention the how shocking it could be for the kiddie and their parents. Stop being selfish For everyone's sake. To the showgrounds management. I'm sure the last thing they need is to make the news and have a huge public liability case against them. It's very easy. All dogs on leads no longer than a couple of metres at all times. One warning and you're out. Car rego recorded on arrival. Enough said.

Sorry Geoff - I just re read my post, and didn't make it clear that this dog was in another free camp, not Gundy - at Kershaw Park in Rockhampton. Apologies.
I agree - all dogs should be on leads in public places - even the "friendliest" dogs.

No worries at all Jules. Luckily bad dog owners are the minority. I love dogs and miss my koolie Bailey enormously, lost him to cancer. Happy and safe traveling buddy.
