I have a 2009 dual cab which came with heavy duty suspension. It was to hard so replaced it with std suspension and have now done about 30k towing a 2.8 caravan with out a problem. Remember there is a limit to the weight you can carry in the ute, if your ball weight is correct , your WDH set right and you have not overloaded the back of the ute you don't need heavy duty springs. The colorado was designed to carry this load and as with most vehicles there is always a tolerance built in. I will now stand back and watch the comments.

I tow just under 2,800kg with approx 250kg on the ball and had an extra leaf put each side of the rear springs just a few weeks back. I have found a big possitive difference travelling from Melbourne to Ulladulla area, NSW south coast, via Princes hwy. Very happy and raised the back about 2". Even with the van not on the back I find it a compfortable drive. I do still have some weight in the back though and always will as I am full time on the road.

I am the happy owner of a 2012 Colorado twin cab (with tub atm) 2wd, towing a fairly light 16ft van, standard suspension and never a problem. Actually find it is a bit of a harsh ride on poor roads, I have dropped the tyre pressure on the rears, still quite crisp. Wassa is on the money I reckon... save ya coin and go for a trial run.
we are picking up a 102/13 duel cab with tray back next week and was told to upgraded heavy duty load leveling tow pack on it
we plan to tow 3 ton loaded caravan with it. and do a lot of traveling anyone having problems out there with theirs
