Has anyone been to the Mt Hay Gemseekers Caravan Park 30 minutes west of Rockhampton? Can you tell me what it's like please?

never been there, but had a look on wikicamps. Not a lot of people have said much about this CP other than the owners/managers are very helpful and its great for looking and finding thunder eggs !! Think I'll stick with choc easter eggs - sounds like a male abulition block 1st thing in the morning LOL. Plenty of displays of gems and rocks. One couple found 20 thunder eggs and owners helped them cut them. Steep access road so sounds like you need a 4WD if youre pulling a 'van and dusty sites. In July 2013 they charged $25pp for tours and egg fossicking. Bore water to sites and showers but tank water for drinking. In July 2013 a powered site for 2 was $25 pn and $5 for washing machine. $20 for unpowered site.
Bit out of date, but hopefully someone will have been there more recently and can give you more up to date info. Good luck with the THUNDER eggs haha

hope it turns out as good as you hope it will be:) Unfortunately theres not even any pics for this site on wikicamps......if you have any sort of tablet, or laptop (running windows v 8.1) you can download wikicamps as an App for a 14 day free trial - you can then read what people have said in full. BTW wikicamps costs less than $8 per year to have - I don't use my $84 Camps 8 book anymore - bit of a waste of money

Stayed there about 3 years ago, for a few nights. A little old, plenty of room. Good showers. Hosts were very pleasant and helpful. Collected a few nice specimen thunder eggs including a couple of 4 pointers and a five pointer. Access is a reasonably steep dirt road, but easily accessible by 2wd towing a small van. Good selection of merchandise available and they will cut your finds for you.

Rang yesterday and spoke to the owners. They advised there is a steep dirt road into the caravan park but nothing to be alarmed about. The caravan park is a basic bush park with plenty of room but no mod cons i.e. pool, playground... Will let you know what it's like after we stay there in May. I'll post it in Recommendations.
