After 4 years my satellite dish had become weathered sitting in the sun and was looking very dull on the surface.
I've given it a good wash and a spray with a product called Polyglaze - "Car Dash & Trim Care" which has restored it back to near new appearance.
The difference in picture quality has improved with the picture being very clear and crisp.
Not trying to promote Polyglaze in any way but it worked a treat for me.
Cheers, John

What sort of dish was yours, mine has a flat black finish to it, don't think it will polish up, didn't know the surface of the dish was that important as long as it was smooth and not dented in any way.

Hi jon641 - My dish is just a large dish nothing special (no dints) & the polyglaze restored the surface back to the way it was when I bought it in Katherine NT 4 years ago.
If it didn't make any difference I would not have posted the hint.
Cheers, John

The technical term for that is the Placebo effect.
The dish works by a metallic (or metallic compound) layer reflecting electromagnetic waves and focusing them onto the LNB. As long as the dish isn't dented or damaged it will work no matter what the surface looks like. But it's nice to bring things up to good looking condition anyway.

I thought the dish had to be matt in finish. I can remember reading that you can paint a dish any colour you like as long as you don't use gloss paint.

The only effect gloss paint "might" have is to reflect more light/heat onto the LNB. I wouldn't expect it would be that serious a problem though. Even painting with metallic paint seems to have little effect from what I've read. Now if it was within a radome, you wouldn't paint it with metallic paint.

I have just bought a fibreglass dish which is neither metal nor dull in its finish.

It folds up to a very convenient size and has a bag for the dish and the tri pod.
I intend to get a mounting kit for the draw bar/rear bar as well.
Cheers
From the name it appears to be a 75cm dish? Is that big enough for Australia wide I wonder?
Aussie Paul.
The new model is the Optima T2. The link is an old Pic
I think 80cm is OK for most of Aus....
Ah ha, ok.
