We don't usually travel at Easter time (nor school holidays) but this year we are. Since being in Vic we realised pretty quickly that waterways, lakes etc are NOT the places to be for Easter. Any suggestions for a quiet spot - not too dear - for the Easter break?

A place that will be nice and quiet is where a few of us Greens Lake Refugees ended up just prior to the New Year. Girrgarry. Just west of Shepparton. Nothing there though but veeeery quiet. Toots and hot shower for a small donation. Water on tap and a dump point to.

Thanks Dougwe. We will take at a look at Greens Lake but did realise it would NOT be the place for Easter so will look at Girgarry if we find nothing else.

Recently spent a week at Warburton's bridge near Castlemaine. Fire pits and toilets alongside The Lodden river. We stayed as far around the back as you could go, it was secluded and right by the water.

We've got Easter and straight on top we have two weeks of school holidays. It's a worry as I don't want to be on the road either. I can stay quietly at my sons in Hervey Bay over Easter as they are going away camping. But the school holidays = Ouch. Not sure.

Soon as the school holidays are over I'm off to Mildura.....
That's off topic though... In answer to your question if you are happy to go 1hr past Mildura to Pooncarrie you can camp for free in the national park right by the Darling river.
There's a shop in town for essentials... If you can call it a town more like a settlement.

Unfortunately it is hard to find a nice spot to yourselves over Easter in Vic. Maybe in the middle of an urban area as it seems everyone goes away camping. Rod

Thanks for all your suggestions. We haven't gone far today but found a great little park (at recommendation of people we met yesterday) at Brim. 20kms north of Warracknabeal. Can't stay here until after Easter as we want to see more but $10/night for power and hot showers and glimpses of a lake are hard to beat. Last night was at Lake Lascelles at Hopetoun (we don't go far some days) and it was lovely but should have gone around the lake for non-power (free) instead of powered $20/night. And very popular place with new Bush Retreat facilities and obviously lots to eat from the lake.

Nyah West - near Swan Hill - the old trotting track has free camping at the back, near the river - water, dump point, toilets. 26k west of Swan Hill, which is a great little town.

The Council owned park at Dimboola was our Easter break last year. Great little park and not too expensive. Did get busy but not too bad. Just park down towards the footy oval end away from the camping area.
