Fran I am so glad that you read the manual, if they didn't write it in double Dutch it would make life easier.
I have a switch as I came in the door that I can turn the step on and off. Just a thought. Don't know if you may have accidentally bumped it while climbing ladders a panel beating.
Hope you find the answer as I am sure you will. Xx

Do you have a multi-meter and do you know how to use it? If you do then chase along the wiring to see where the power disappears. If the power gets to the motor then the motor is buggered or the mechanism is stuck.

No I dont have one, but I found this in the garage, will this do? It lights up, but can't remember where to put the clamps,
the spring clamp goes to earth and the sharp pointy end to the wire , but it only tells if you have power to the wire not how much

Well done Fran. I'm sure you get a feeling of satisfaction that you achieved it yourself too.
You have now qualified for a certificate in "Fixerupering". Congratulations.
