I suppose there are threads for this - but I didn't want to troll 128 pages to find them - so sorry if this has all be discussed before.
I just bought an 80 channel UHF CB radio
want I'd like to find out is if there are specific channels I shouldn't use eg: truckies use them
and if there are specific channels that caravaners use???
am obviously a bit of a luddite when it comes to this stuff.
any advice greatly appreciated
cheers

G'day,
Channel 40 is the road channel and will keep you up to date on what is happening near you such as oversize loads etc, road conditions things like that. I have often asked where to get the cheapest fuel in a town but be prepared for some occasional foul language
Ch 18 is a channel for caravanners to use when travelling in convoy
ch 5 and 35 are for emergency use only
ch 1-8 and 31-38 are repeater channel outputs and inputs
I am not up to speed with the additional channels as my set is 40 ch.

Hi Caravangio, the two main channels are ch18 for vanners & ch40 for truckies, I personally scan both channels because some truckies will let you know when they wish to pass and you can let them know when it is safe to cut back in. Keeps everybody happy! A decal on the back of your van with your name and UHF 18/40 lets them know you have a CB, there pet hate is when you have the decal, but don't turn the CB on or reply.

channel 40 for most highways for trucks, but channel 29 for Pacific Highway and feeders.

Gday...
This site will show the 80 channels and their designation -
Gregg. With your new radio there should be a good instruction book that not only tells you the various channels and their use, but also things like priority scanning etc. This means you can have your unit on one channel but it can be programmed to scan all channels and if there is a broadcast on another channel it will change to that, then afterwards switch back to the channel you have chosen as the main channel.
