We are taking on another house sitting in Kalgoorlie commencing April 1.
We intended heading up to Lake Ballard whilst there as a day trip.
Can someone provide info on road conditions.
I have received varying reports including gravel road for a "long distance"
cheers

About 40 k's of good gravel from about 10 k's out of Menzies, they were working on a section just opposite the turn off into Lake Ballard when we were there approx August last year, depending on how much rain they have had up there the "lake" could be a bit muddy/slimy to walk out on. Good free camping overlooking the lake, good toilets take everything else.

we went out there last November. The road closest(probably about 40km) to Menzies was in good nick (but dirt/gravel). As you get closer to Ballard, the road got more corrugated. If you go too slow on it, your vehicle will want to go sideways. so adjust your speed to "float" over all the corrugations.
Take plenty of water, sunglasses and wide hat. The lake is very hot to walk on as the sun reflects off the white salt.
We actually found it a bit boring - wish we hadn't bothered - and just kept the postcards and brochures lol
Great coffee and light food at Menzies cafe

We took a circurlar route from Kalgoorlie, turning off the h'way at Broad Arrow, and following the gravel through ghost towns until we got to lake Ballard, return via Menzies. Well worth the dirt road just to see the deserted towns like Daveyhurst and the pubs - Broad Arrow and Ora Banda, however conditions can vary from season to season. Drive to the conditions.
