Does any one have any idea if its possible to rip a 240 volt compressor out of a fridge and replace it with a 12 volt one? Surely both 240 and 12 volt compressors work on the same principle and the idea should be feasible, hopefully winding up with a half decent R.V. fridge.

Well yes you can but the compressor needs to match the fridge size. Using a danfoss compressor the BD35 will probably handle up to about 120Liters, any thing over that size you would be looking at a BD50. The next is the price of compressors a BD35 + its controller is around $600 last time I looked (the compressor & its controller are sold seperatly when new). Ive found its cheeper to buy a second hand Waeco fridge cheep & remove the compressor. This is what I did when I needed a compressor.
