I am "newby" to this forum caper so please excuse anything done incorrectly. My question is this: I have a 200 series Landcruiser and we are about to do the big loop. Most, but not all driving will be on bitumen and again most, but not all will be towing a 23" van. I have had a few 4wd Utes over the years and have always been happy with BFG All-Terrains. I have also had the use of a vehicle for a while that had Coopers on, which I found fairly noisey. Is there anybody out there willing to pass on their experience with tyres on a 200 series please?

G'day Chief, If you go to the Landcruiser forum LCOOL, you will find all the information your after about tyres and everything Landcruiser. There are heaps of people there that tow all sorts of van to all sorts of places.

What tribe are you from mate. I am from the crazy eagle tribe that just move around.
I have Cooper A/T3 118R's fitted to Collie and seem fine so far. They were on a good special two weeks ago.
They seemed to look flat but increased the pressure and seem much better.

I have the Goodyear Wranglers on my 200 series. The originals tyres only lasted 40,000kms, I now have 144,000kms on the car. So they have lasted over 100,000kms.There is only one problem with then, they are expensive.

Something less aggressive will give better fuel economy.
I would suggest a Michelin LT if you can find a suitable size.

I am very surprised the klmrs people get out of good 4wd tyres .. Especially when fitted with wider wheels..
Yes more road going compound, tread will give quieter , smoother ride...

I am currently running Pirelli Scorpion all terrain tyres which have done just over 50000 and i have found them good in both dry and wet weather they are also a fairly quiet tyre and with current wear I would anticipate 100000 Klm out of this set.
Well worth shopping around as there is quite a lot of price difference out there with retailers and wholesalers.

unfortunately,if I am correct you have 18 inch rims on the LC200 and this reduces the range of tyres available. Goodyear wranglers are certainly an option and BFG A/T are also worth consideration. On my patrol I had 170000km on 16 inch Michelins but I did rotate the 5 wheels every 10000. Unfortunately I have purchased another patrol but it has 18 inch rims and as yet Michelin in Australia cannot supply the size so I am stuck with a very average set of Bridgestones. I will be interested to see how Aussietraveller goes with his Pirell Scorpions if they are on 18 inch rims.

G'day and many thanks to Larry, Doug, Snail, Peter, Guru, Aussie traveller and Patrol03 for your feedback and advise. My LC has 17" rims which apparently opens up the options for replacement tyred. at the moment, it has Cooper A/T s on and I have no idea how many Kim's come with 'em.
I am obi about road noise for some reason. Must have been a mis-spent youth or something. But I had some coopeRs on an ex-ute I drove for a while and could t wait to get rid of them and put on some BFG A/Ts. At around $400 a pop, I'd like to be sure Im gunna get the best tyre possible.
i read somewhere that the larger the OD of the tyre, the better the fuel economy and performance. True or false? And if true, any suggestions?

Two things there Chief. Tyre noise equal fuel consumption. Noise is energy.
Again, if you go to the Landcruiser forum (LCOOL) there are discussions about OD. Some to do with unfavourable fuel consumption.

I Have just fitted BFG A/T 285/r17/75 to my L/Cruiser T/Diesel. Quoted $430 each at Ingham and Ballina Tyre Power. Went to Kmart. Ballina they shopped around and got me USA made BFGs supplied, fitted, wheel balanced and wheel alignment. $313each. Great deal great tyre. Have always used BFG 3 Pajeros, 2 100 series L/Cruisers got well over 120,000 KLMs each set.
