Hi Jules
It more of illusion caused by the small wheels and the narrow spread of the dual axle.
It appears you are allowed 3.7 metres from the centre of your single axle or the spread of 2 axle.
To me they probably don't allow for spare wheel or anything else attached to the rear. Ralph.

Would that be a Subaru towing it? Unable to distinguish the oval badge but doesn't look like a Ford Territory.

Edit next day: Perhaps it is a Territory - but it looks like it has too much forward slope at the rear. -- Edited by Long Weekend on Monday 2nd of March 2015 08:43:01 PM

Will try and get a look at the car, and maybe the brand of van, tomorrow.
Thanks Paul, that is the same - very lightweight for such a long vehicle.

Had a van pull into a park once, very much like this, it had been bought out from Europe by the owner. Anyway what happened was him and his mates sold it very quick and very cheap before shooting through. Turns out he was one off those Shonky road pavers doing the rounds at the time

If it is registered in Australia surely it must have passed the roadworthy spec. to get a rego plate.
Wouldn't be something I would tow anyway.

Hey Jules.....did you find out more about the van and tow? The tow vehicle looks way too small for the van

Looks a lot like the European ones that a mate of my son imports & upgrades to meet Aussie regs. Son does the gas work on them. He often has a couple in the yard waiting for fit out. Gives us a good chance to inspect them.
They are very light for length with low ball weight and low ground clearance. Usually very good layout in living area but often lousy bedroom ensuite set up - at least in our view.
We don't like the truncated double bed with one side along the wall and a very small truncated combined shower toilet.
A good earner as there is a steady thru put & a good profit margin to share. It seems that they sell very well.

No they were gone before I got up this morning, so didn't get to check out the tow vehicle.
This caravan pulled in today, have never seen a van with such a HUGE overhang, couldn't get close enough to make out the brand.
sorry photo didn't work out try again!
