If you are buying a second hand caravan or motorhome, a good spray of pure eucalyptus oil will kill any little bugs in the mattress!

No way would I keep a 2nd hand mattress! It would be the 1st thing I would chuck out.

Not all can afford to do that, Dick - and the bedbugs gather in corners of beds, they like to hide in dark places etc.
And have you never stayed in a motel or hotel, or a cabin? Never know who has been sleeping in them!

Jules that is a great idea.
Do Use it straight in a small spray bottle or would you dilute it with something.
Just trying to get my head around how to use it

Friend buys in bulk, and yes she uses it in a spray bottle straight. She manages an accomodation house for people with mental difficulties, sometimes people are taken to her place right off the street- so often not very clean.
sorry Fran - I would spray both mattresses - don't need to saturate, just a light spray.

I don't think eucalyptus oil either straight or diluted will kill bed bugs - according to Wikipedia they are resistant to most pesticides - they recommend steaming or freezing for a number of hours.
Then again, I've never encountered bed bugs - people talk about them but maybe it's more talk and actual experience.
We do however use eucalyptus oil in a spray bottle in the van for many purposes - personally I love it's refreshing smell.

I put mattresses out in the sun and turn around throughout the day so all sides get a good dose.

Hi Guys
I have had the displeasure of bed bugs and I find that a jolly good spray with surface spray, leave for a few hours then a jolly good vacuuming. I'm not too sure how Eco it is but it did the job on those little suckers.
