Went to download Wikicamps onto my newish (about 8 months old) home computer...and I seems I need Windows 8.1 to use it .....
Now I have just got my head around using windows 7...and find that there is always a patch for downloading....but not from Wikicamps thank you very much....!!!!
Can I do anything about this?? Any ideas folks??
I,m not really that ultra-tech savvy....and NO...I don't wanna upgrade to 8.1..n go thru all that bloody learning process again for a cuppla years at least.
Cheers Keith

Use wiki on your phone or tablet that is the way to go, and yes you can only use Wiki on windows 8.1 I believe.
Great app we use it all the time.

Russ is right - will now only do Windows 8.1 (although some people say it works fine on v. 8). If you do a fair amount of travelling - especially free camping, its well worth while putting it onto your phone (if it has a decent sized screen) or go buy a tablet - you can use Androids so you wont feel to out of place from Windows 7 and the big electronics retailers are always doing a special - you can pick up one with arouns an 8" screen for $200-300. Wikicamps is brilliant.
BTW Hope youre backing up your Wndows 7 because its so old you will have major problems if your software crashes:)

Interesting you have Windows 7 on an 8 month old computer Keith. I had to take Win 8 when I got my last one and that was 2 years ago. I like Bruce n Bev's idea of trying to put wikicamps on Win 8, might go see if it will work. I do have it on my phone, best thing since sliced bread.
Edit: No, won't accept it on my Win 8.

Hi everyone
i run wikicamps on my win 7 pc
you need to download an "APP Player" such as bluestacks which will allow the download and running of apps.
I have been using it for over 12 months and no issues whatever.
I also use it to run Hema maps app.

When I got it ...windows 8 was the then current system...but as I was upgrading from updated XP...my techy who built it suggested that 7 was a good next step...and also reckoned that 8 was a PITA at the time...so went with 7.
I keep the updates current...and was told ...and am expecting ...7 to be supported by Microsoft for a fair while yet....and have had no trouble with it too date.
Cheers Keith

There is not much info on the BlueStacks web site. There is some limitations on its use. See this site for more info.
If you are prepared to accept the conditions it looks a good system. An alternative system you may consider is Android-x86 Both systems operate Android apps so download the Android version of Wikicmps

Hi Keith , you might be able to run it in compatability mode for windows 7.

Compatibility mode is for running old programmes not future programmes.

if youre running Windows v8 - you can download for FREE v 8.1. Not a huge download, doesn't change your previous version one.
Im no computer nerdy, but had no problems moving from v.8 to v.8.1, mainly because the changes are small
Then you can run wikicamps on it

I have Windows 7, downloaded Bluestacks App, then Wikicamps but can't get it to work, so I e-mailed Wikicamps. This is part of the reply:
"Wikicamps is not available for Windows 7. We cannot offer the same quality of work when you're using Wikicamps through an emulator. Many of the features do not work and the app will be buggy and unreliable. For this reason we do not recommend using Wikicamps through bluestacks."

Hey Frank, I've just tried doing the above. Loaded bluestacks OK this time, loaded some games apps too and they work fine. But I downloaded Wikicamps and cannot view a map. When I click on the map icon I just get a black screen. Is there a trick to this or should I uninstall and try again.
Cheers, Marianna
