Dammit. Why can you never find somewhere that does exactly what you want?
My small Mercedes sprinter has closed windows except for front ones, so gets pretty hot inside without sliding door open. I wanted opening window putting in back. Cant find anyone to do it.
Grrrrrrrr

If the exhaust pipe is at the back, it may be illegal to have opening windows there.

I've got the same problem with my hiace and worry about the dogs in the back when driving. It's expensive to run the aircon for them Can you source the window from a wrecker and then ask a body shop or windscreen place to help?

Yes you can get them. My Toyota Hiace has no sliding windows in the back either. I went to O'Briens Windows in Echuca, they ordered one especially for this model, came from Sydney, they fitted it when it arrived. The old fitted one had to be completely removed and discarded. Cost me $800 in total. Next summer I am doing the other side back window.
It certainly makes such a difference to be able to open a back window.

Do you have a roof vent ? Not too expensive and relatively easy to get installed.

Thought about air vent but windows seemed best option. Also thought it may be cheaper as theyed have to cut through roof etc

Have to agree with Wendyv. Just check the windows have not been made non opening to stop exhaust gases being sucked in.

the spinner type round roof grilles which will suck air in are not expensive to fit and come with a slide closer as an option to prevent dust being sucked in on dirt roads

Hi didi,
Not sure which model of Sprinter you have but mine is a mini bus and has the rear two sliding open. It has three windows each side. I would like to fit some opening ones to some others also !
However I would be sure that some smaller models do have the same ones as I have on the front two from looking at ones on the road. Try ringing some Sprinter wreckers to see what they have. There are some advertise on Gumtree and ebay.
I think I will fit some roof vents as a minimum because the security is better than leaving the side window open. That big van roof certainly collects the heat in the sun.
Cheers jaahn

You get around this quiet easily by changing the outlet of the exhaust, either to one side or by fitting a 'droopy'. Just like the good old days of the Holden Sandman. Do you remember?

I checked the price of the small round spinners and found them for $37. Sounds like they are easy to fit too from what's said on the website and if you know a good handyman even better. I think that's the way I will go. Thanks for starting this thread Di. I didn't even know I would need them til I saw it. Cheers

HI,
I think the round spinners will be just OK when travelling but too small when sitting around. Not enough area for the air to flow.
A panel beater or a handyperson or a caravan repairer could fit it in half an hour. I would put one at the front end and the rear too. Or perhaps just a large real caravan roof hatch. Be worth it on a hot day.
There is no problem with the exhaust and opening side windows. The standard pipe goes straight out the back not to either side.

Didi
Have seen a Sprinter with a wind out windows similar to here. Perhaps your fixed windows could be taken out with one of these as a direct replacement.
Yes This air vent does seem good. May try and find someone to fit one when I get to Townsville. Thanks Jaahn

One thing about adding opening windows and other things that make your van look like a camper. I was talking to travellers in a van that had minimum windows. We were talking about their fit out. When I asked about installing opening windows they replied that they were going to keep the van looking like a delivery van. That way they can park in places that commercial travellers can stop for a rest and they don't get challenged by rangers for being there.
