A quick question - we are about to head off tomorrow for 5 weeks and just found out our fridge appears to be playing up. I had it on 240volt and whilst the freezer box got cold it didn't freeze and the fridge section appeared to be not working at all. I switched over to gas and the freezer box worked OK but again the main fridge section was not cold after several hours. Any thoughts?

Does not sound too good
I expect you have the fridge level ??
Is there any indication of an AMMONIA smell inside oraround the back of the fridge??
If so you have lost refrigerant , Will need a whole new cooling unit unit
Remember though they do take quite a while to cool the fridge section.
Is the freezer section REALLY COLD?[freezing]

G'day I have found that it may take some time to cool a fridge running on gas and I have found that mine runs better when fully loaded. hope this helps

When I had my caravan I had some problems similar to what you've described so I searched the net for some answers, here's some links that helped me
My problem was the fins just needed cleaning then worked better on 240v, but not as well on gas. Then I made a manometer and found the gas pressure wasn't enough, adjusted it, then worked on both gas & 240v equally as well.

It may take up to 12 hours for a 3 way fridge to get down to reasonable temps.

Thanks Peter for your reply and to all the others too. Yes, the freezer section appears to be working OK although it failed to get cold initially on 240v. However, I turned it to gas and it freezed up overnight. It maintained the cold in the freezer during today's travel from Melbourne to Jugiong but the fridge section still appears to be struggling. The fridge isn't overly packed and it has been very hot so it could be a combination of these two things causing a problem.
I will read up on the links sent thru to me by others to see if I can find any other possible faults.
As an aside, there's probably about 25 free camping at Jugiong tonight - we have a refreshing cool breeze blowing but expect another hot day tomorrow.

I assume it is a 3 way fridge. If it has been sitting for a while turning up side down for a day fixes a lot of issues. Usually a bit hard in a van but it may come good with the shake up of travelling.
I grew up with kero fridges which are the same thing. That is why I refused to accept anything with one of those fridges. Compressor fridges only for me.
