Any recommendations? Heading off soon - Alice Springs, NT, WA

We are heading off soon on our biggest adventure yet.
Gold Coast, via Texas, to Broken Hill, Port Augusta through the centre to Darwin.
Then Darwin across west coast to Perth and the lower areas of WA, across Nullabor and heading back to Adelaide and home.
So, we are looking mainly at any suggestions of freecamps or caravan parks and good sight seeing things to do.
I know its a big ask, but am feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment.
Looking at heading off after Easter.

Any particular areas of interest? Some good WWII military stuff in the top end NT. East point military museum and the cemetery at Adelaide river.

Replied privately also - we did it last year Avida Multi Terrain with 3.0 litre diesel Patrol tug - absolutely magic trip.

In the Alice springs area the McDonnell Ranges (western and Eastern) are a must see, probably more free camping opportunities in the Eastern, classic central Australian scenery in the western, Glen Helen Gorge van park is a good place to stay.
The whole of the Stuart highway is a history lesson.
I agree with the previous posters about PM's, fine for exchanging personal details etc, much better we share information re touring, sightseeing, camping etc, the forum would die quick smart if we all played the PM game.

Stacks to see and do in and around Darwin (stayed 5 weeks),Don't miss the underground WW11 hospital in Mt. Isa
Edith Falls (NT) lovely swimming spot and the boat cruise at Katherine Gorge (NT) is well worthwhile.At Wyndham (WA)
drive up the Five Rivers Lookout beautiful view of these rivers entering the sea.there is just so much to see we have
been on two trips 6 month trips around OZ in the past 5yrs. and can't wait for May to head off again.Hope these couple
of spots are of interest to you.

I have just look for the Sub Forum things to do can't find one that would be the reason P & M hasn't posted there but they are always very helpful giving advice when people ask for advice .

I am a new member, we left central Vic in March, am now is SA on the York Peninsula. Heading to Rawnsley park for Easter then to Whyalla around Streaky Bay area, then up thought the centre to Broome and around the west coast, away for about six months. Any suggestions on what to see and do, free camps and caravan parks to stay would be appreciated.

We have allowed from Easter until just before Christmas, trying to allow calling in to see family in Sydney around December, so we think time should be good.
Am happy to share trip highlights on forum.
We have learned so much from our Nomad site so far. Its so helpful to be able to just jump on and search, or ask questions to like minded people

Apprentice Nomad If you don't mind a short diversion it is worth a trip to Whyalla. At the boat harbour/ramps in town the Dolphins follow in any fishing boats and come right up to the pontoon and ramps. When we were there a family of mother/father/baby came in. They were literally an arms length away and rolled on their side to get a close up. See pic. They were amazing!
Thanks, sounds good. We are from South Australia originally, and will be doing a bit of time there on the way back. Will check it out.

'Batchelor Holiday Park' in Batchelor NT is a great caravan park, the owners Jim & Julie are very friendly & helpful. The van park is a good base to visit Litchfield National Park where there are many waterfalls to see & easy access to most of them, I reckon a better place than Kakadu. We might see you there as we are heading back that way in May.

Going up the Center, make time to call in to Woomera, very interesting place. Just north of there is Lake Hart, a pink lake where they used to farm salt, there is still a pile there from 1934, that never got picked up. Free camp as well. A trip out to The Breakaways North of Coober Pedy is a "must do" - beautiful at sunset. Free camp at Finke River, we walked up the fpdry river bed and found a herd of about 30 camels , grazing. Big ones, medium ones, and small ones, terrific sight.
In Darwin we stayed at Robbie Robins Reserve, a polo grounds - good pricing, and not far out of the city.
Pine Creek, we stayed at Pussycat Flats, an old racecourse, set up for camping with power and water. Met Bryan Brown there!
Mount Bundy Station at Adelaide River is another good spot, unpowered or powered.
Read the " free/budget campspots sub forum on here, heaps of info for you.
Most of all - enjoy!

In Alice springs the Aircraft museum is well worth a visit http://www.centralaustralianaviationmuseum.com/ hunt around, plenty to see in the Alice.
