Well only two weeks to go. The notice is given on the house and most of my worldly goods disposed of. The hiace is in the yard getting work on it to make sure it's on the best possible condition. There's no going back now. How has it worked out for other solo travellers on a tight budget? Any regrets or loneliness?

No regrets or concerns from me TR. I find as a solo traveller that, yes you are on your own but never alone. There is always someone around. I also don't mind some "My Time" either.

Whatever you do or wherever you go enjoy and keep safe.

No regrets, a wonderful life. Alone at times, very rarely lonely, although it does happen. I have just had quite a few weeks with people around me and now I am heading for a camp spot where I can I have some me time.

Enjoy your time out there and explore to your hearts content.

Hi TR, I have been "on the road" for about 5 months now and have spent time at Greens, (6 weeks over Xmas) met some Great people and am at the mo travelling with a fellow GN. It's a great life, doing it all on my pension and doing it easy, if you take your time.
I have No Regrets at all as I can stay in touch with family and friends at all times via Internet.
I'm seeing new places at my own speed and can sit still for as long as I like or move on when it pleases me.
I haven't been lonely at all. Always something to grab my attention... The local wildlife, birds, pelicans galahs magpies,rabbits even sheep and cattle all wander through the campsite, making it all special in different ways. The views, sunsets and sunrises are all spectacular, last night we sat outside and just looked at all the brilliant stars, and saw 3 satellites move across the sky and 2 shooting stars.
I am house sitting for three weeks and it's out in the country so no rat race to put up with! It's never lonely even when it is quiet and isolated (8klms from town)
Get into it and always have a positive outlook, be Happy, Happy, Happy AND Excited you won't regret it at all. Cheers, Sarg.

Thanks so much for the encouragement. I have done long distance driving before but not taking time to camp or do much looking around. It's hard watching all my stuff go out the door too but I'm trying to be a bit Buddhist about it. I think the hardest part is sitting here in an empty house waiting to go. I'm sure it will be great and I will meet wonderful people. It's just those darn butterflies while I wait. Cheers

Hi Tropical Rose, The first couple of days I wondered if I could handle doing this, but almost 12 months later and a quick trip round the block travelling with other GN's then on my own and now travelling with another GN, I know I made the right decision not to vegetate in a house and take to the road in my HOME.

You will meet lots of others doing the same thing and make lifelong friends. Happy travels and hope to meet you somewhere out in the playground.

I found that whilst I got a bit lonely at first, the more time I spent alone the more I enjoyed my own company. Now, when travelling I make sure I get some "alone" time or I start to feel rushed. I travel slowly, stop frequently and enjoy the view. Pure Heaven on the Road!!

Ditto Krusty. After nearly 3 years on the road I still love this life. Best of all if I want company I go find some - but I am actually quite happy on my own. Alone is not the same as lonely - and you can feel lonely around others. To be content doing your own thing is something to treasure and something many people never embrace or get to experience.

Ditto Krusty and Spida.....I love my alone time, it's special time to do exactly want one wants...for me it's taking in long walks with my two best mates, the Whippet boys, or reading, or writing...keeping the house on wheels clean and neat, listening to music....when I want some company I visit a town and chat with locals or pull up in a CP for a bit and volunteer some place in town....quiet time is to be treasured.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone. I guess loneliness is a state of mind not a location. I too get lonely living here and will be glad to swap it for scenery and hopefully a bit of adventure. One week from today and off I go. :))

Hi it has been great reading your feelings re funny tummy. Reading the responses has been very reassuring for me. I am about to take off on my first adventure as well and am feeling the same way. I feel reassured after reading all the responses, the closer my leaving comes the more I have been having doubts. I have had so many comments about "how brave you are, don't do this or that, it is so dangerous for a lone woman and the what ifs? After reading all these comments and realising everyone probably had doubts at first, I feel a lot better. Good luck hope to catch up with you some time on the road.
