Our TV reception in our van is just hopeless... in bad weather, rainy or windy or both, no reception at all and in poor reception areas picture keeps breaking up all the time. Any ideas please about the best aerials or satellite dishes to install. We are pretty "green " about all of this stuff ! TIA Margi

May I suggest you have a read of a similar thread I put up a while ago, if you scroll back several pages you will find it. Its called "Digital TV, your experiences please. ". There is information there that will interest you.

Hi Margi welcome to the forum, apologies for not answering your post earlier yesterday but I thought there would be a pletherer of replies with more experience than myself. We use the satking (Vast Television) decoder & we also take our Foxtel iq box with us, using an 85cm dish, we have had no problems thus far although we have only used it a couple of times. If you go down this track make sure get a digital sat finder, makes setting up almost fool proof. If you have Foxtel you could possibly get away without having the Vast decoder.

We are currently looking at Satking Motorised Satellite TV System through Satplus in Qld. Not cheap $3.5k plus $200 for the vast box. Will guarantee reception Australia wide as long as the satlking can access the satellite in other words no obstructions/trees etc.

Don't forget that heavy rain can block satellite reception, even if it's not raining where you are but there's a heavy rain cell in your dish's line of sight to the satellite.

If it is an older one, I would recommend to replace your earial cable with the newer one

In my experience if it is not raining where I am it is unlikely to be raining between me and the satellite.

Maybe Joe50 and I live in a different state,..Queensland...because we both use satellite and are camped in the same area and our reception goes if its raining 27 km. away from us..Yeppoon. Line of sight of the satellite. This happens more now as it's the rainy season and storm cells every where. We have a supply of DVD's on hand when that happens.

I am inexperienced and not very clever has as have posted previously, we had same problem and were ready to buy a new anntenna for considerable money when we discovered the problem was a mere connection between the antenna and the cable inlet to the van. Replaced the connection and all worked brilliantly. Hope that helps.

My tv reception was hopeless. Did a 4 month trip with virtually no tv. Then changed the arial cable with one from my house tv..... Brilliant now for the last 4 months. I'd try that before anything else, cheap fix!!
