50 a day, shut the front gate!
I saw that on the giggle box as well. They showed the vans all side by side.
Good luck Rosa. I can see your van slotting in next to the second on the line for the big fix

Whilst i was in Germany last year, there was a Gaint Banner on the VW factory in Wolvesburg, proudly stating that the record for production, was 40,000 Vehicles in ONE DAY, [ majority were Polo's ] and that is from start of sheetmetal to drive off assembly line, ?

Hmmm. A VW Polo is built to much better standards than a Jayco. We need to lift our game here in Australia, should not accept such poor workmanship.

Jayco do 50 units a day which includes their motor homes.
Aussie made RV's are made to the same standard of houses - utter cr**
They only mouth the words "quality control" - they don't actually appy it (all RV and home manufacturers)

Has anyone seen the size of the Jayco factory in Dandenong South, Vic., it is huge - has it's own traffic lights to get in and out!!!!
Their quality control may not be spot on, but their after sales service makes up for that. I heard they use the feedback from after sales service to upgrade products etc.

I never said that Jayco is good or bad
My questian was : How many man hrs it takes to make a caravan
all the material used is around $24000 for a normal 21 ft caravan
( and that is for most Caravan builders )
Cheers John

Why not ask the manufacturer that you wish to know about ? Each company has different methods and will be different.

You can buy a 21 foot van from the USA complete with more creature comforts for about what Aust manufacturers spend on materials, and that indicates that we are being ripped off severely, I suspect our Caravan manufacturers will complain very loudly if we start to seriously import vans from the US.

Hmmm, 50 vans a day I can understand that is roughly 2 vans per hour. But 40 thousand cars in a day is almost three a minute, I find that hard to comprehend.
The logistics that VW must have around that factory would have to be amazing, just think about the truck traffic alone. Not just the trucks to take the cars away, but the trucks delivering sheet metal, the trucks delivering parts, the vehicles the workers arrive and depart in etc. WOW.

Here's a quote from Wiki - the figures are for ALL of Volkswagon's 61 plants around the world and for ALL Brands, VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda - daily world output is only 26,600 vehicles - a far cry from 40,000 a day !
The German Volkswagen Group is the third largest automaker in the world,[9] and the largest in Europe. As of February 2010, it has 61 production plants[1] and factories in fifteen European countries,[1] along with six countries in the Americas, Asia, and Africa.[1] The Group employs nearly 370,000 people around the world,[1] who produce a daily output of over 26,600 motor vehicles,[1] and related major components,[1] for sale in over 150 countries around the globe.[1]

John,
That is possibly right but it does sound a lot for materials. For interest, how did you arrive at the number?
