Hi all we are newbies to the great outback and are planning our first BIG trip. Adelaide to Derby WA via Mt Isa. The return trip is planned during June from Halls Creek along the Buntine Hwy to the Stuart Hwy.
I cannot find a lot of info on the highway nor of camping spots and other places of interest. Can anyone help with some info and other travelling tips?
Thanks.
Sellicks.

Welcome to the gang sellicks, enjoy here and out in the playground.
Maybe get a copy of "Camps 7" to help with camp spots. Camp 8 is due out any tick of the clock though.
You can also get "wickicamps" for your mobile phine or Tablet.
Both are graet. I work with both, first Camps 7 then slip into wicki for a look at reports etc.
Whatever you do enjoy and keep safe.

And welcome from us too. Enjoy the forum. It may take a little while to get all the answers but you usually do.

Hi and welcome. Sorry for delay in responding. We travelled the Duncan and Buntine Highways in mid June - last year. We travel with a 4.2lt Nissan patrol towing a 3.5t off road Kedron caravan. We travelled from Halls Creek via Duncan Road to as far as the NT border, then Buntine to the Victoria Highway. Both were extremely dusty (red), but not too corrugated. worst part was early stages of the duncan. There are a couple of choices for freedom camping near to Halls Creek, then nothing till you get across the border. In Camp 7, there is a camp noted not far from the border, but it is a bit hard to find, perhaps overgrown now. We found a rest area 20km east of the WA/NT border, Kirkimbie Rest Area, beside the road, some shade, picnic table, fire pit. 17 50 619S 129 08 095E Fuel is available at Kalkarindji, there is camping there also, but would not recommend it. Better to stay at Top Springs behind the pub/roadhouse, which is at the intersection of the Buntine and Buchanan Hwy.
