Hi Rocket,
Yes there are CP's with that kind of view on GC, however you will be squashed in like sardines and pay $50pn for the privilege. I stayed there last year for tow nights because I needed to be there for a particular purpose. Would not do it again.
If you really want to do the GC, then I believe there is a free camping spot at the end of the spit. It is Crown Land and there is room for 3-4 vans there. I did look at it when I was down that way and looked like a good spot to be as long as you don't mind it being busy through the day with locals and tourists. I spoke to a couple who were camped there for a couple of days, they told me about it. Worth having a look at. I am sure there are areas around the Rivers also, just have to know where they are and make sure you can get your rig in. I am not familiar with any around that particular area.

At Pottsville you can be on a absolute beach front looking out over a tidal estuary, a beautiful spot, book before arriving as beach fronts are popular.

Our favorite sites at Kingscliff got washed away a few years ago. Must go back. Great spot & the river is excellent for kayaking & snorkeling. (No/few bull sharks, I think.)
If you want the GC, we like Tallebudgera. Beaut river views & once again great kayaking & fishing in the river, but lots of sharks. Well positioned & great walk along the surf front. Bike paths & surf club across the road with surf views.
