This morning an individual in a I think it was an Isuzu pulling a 5th wheeler pulled out into the western highway from Ballarat causing 2 cars to brake heavily almost creating a multi car accident.
So if you were driving the Qld registered vehicle towing the 5th Wheeler, lift your game think of other road users who had the right of way, I was one of the vehicles involved.

thankfully gundog, you and yours are OK. We recently bought a Crash Cam just for this type of incident. Hope we never have to use the evidence.

Wasn't us we are in Vietnam ( No we didn't take our 5th wheeler ) there is estimated over 6 million motor bikes here motor bike traffic here is worse than Bali, philipines and China but it's a beautiful place .

Sounds clever indeed but at least no one was injured or damage done. As PB said, we have all more than likey done a silly thing or two on the roads.

The thing that annoyed me most of all is attitudes like that which brings a bad name to grey nomads in general.
Where the majority of us try to be co-operative with other road users, this individual was too focused on getting on the western highway without considering that the vehicles approaching would have to brake heavily and ultimately cause a bank up of traffic behind him because of the time and distance needed for him with such a vehicle to get up to the posted speed limit.
To compound his stupidity 2 other road users with little regard overtook him in a less than desirable position and manner.
as drivers of large vehicles it is our responsibility to be better and more considerate wether we like it or not.
Luckily this time I was driving solo from melb to Adelaide in the car and was well rested prior to commencing the trip, which put me on my A game.

Driving such as this, is most certainly not the sole preserve of Grey Nomads
So even if it was a "old phart" at the wheel, drivers of every age group, from time to time, are careless, thoughtless, impatient, aggressive or simply make an error of judgement.
As always, it remains the prime responsibility of each of us to be vigilant, alert and drive within the limitations of the road conditions, weather, and our abilities.
If we are always aware of the possibility of the unexpected we are better prepared to avoid major disaster. As you were in this case, allowing you to avoid an incident.

G'day all
I plead guilty to having done this once too ...
Was parked - saw a mate go by and got into gear and surged fwd onto the highway to catch him up & failed to consider the others travelling towards me
They were smarter than I - and braked and slowed
However a truckie got on the 2-way and gave me heaps & heaps, kept overtaking the other cars till he was on my rear bumper - all I could see was his truck front end occupying the whole of the rear window. Bastard behaviour
I 2-way'd him ... 'my old mum says 2 wrongs don't make it right - so how about you back off' and turned the radio off to escape the diatribe

plenty of car drivers do this 1000's of times a day, but we RV users are a minority road user and behavior like this does all of us no good.
I shrink when I see other RV's doing this (mainly those towing a caravan like us). The 3 things that bug other road users are
1. The above type of behavior
2. Travelling on convey so close together that other vehicles can overtake
3. Travelling at slow speed (20 or more kmh than the posted speed limit) to save fuel. Ive read here people saying they drive at 60-70 kmh as a matter of course in 100 khm areas - great when they are in no hurry and want to save fuel, but how frustrated do other drivers get, especially when they cant overtake due to oncoming traffic or road conditions. Then we all get tarred with the same brush and get treated badly by other drivers who think all RV drivers are all dangerous or slow
