at the stage of window shopping at the moment for a Tug, I currently own a dual fuel Pajero which has been a great work horse and incredibly comfortable but we are considering another Pajero, A Jeep Cherokee a Colorado Waggon or a Challenger in a Diesel not petrol model.
I tow a van weighing just short of 3 ton and 21 foot long, I do some off road driving and also like the additional safety offered by a 4x4 vehicle, any one who has owned any of the above in newish models I would appreciate your advice.

We have a BT 50 which is essentially the same as a Ford Ranger and we can't fault it. Dragging a 3.2 tonne van it averages 16.5 l/100K at between 80 and 90 KPH never missing a beat. As new models are coming out this year I see Mazda is starting the run out with an advertised price of $39 990 on tonight's TV.

Consider a D-Max rather than a Colorado

D-Max SX (the base model is perfect. Has light truck town & contry tyres on steel rims (rather than mags that don't handle rough rounds too well), stiffer rear suspension for 'van weight, rubber matting in cab for red dust and mud and best of all, much cheaper than the more expensive models.
We've had a D-Max for 6 mnths and towed our 24ft 3.5t (heavier with all the junk the wife puts in it) over 18 km in one trip with no probs at all.
It also has some electronic features that no other tow vehicle has specifically for towing vans and boats.
Find a decent salesperson who can tell you what those features are.
Great fuel consumption too - and goes like the clappers when towing
