Is there a computer whiz who can help me? My space bar won't work, hence the dashes to separate the words
There ya go Kandagal, I fixed the spaces for you.. Is there anything else you need sorted?
Seriously though, it depends what kind of keyboard you are using, but maybe there is something caught under the bar. Or even the operating system you are using may have a setting where you can locked or filtered key. Try this google search or something similar, to see if you can see a link that matches your problem space bar does not work . Try adding what computer if it's a laptop, or the operating system you are using ie windows 8, windows 7, apple etc.

Try inverting the keyboard (keys facing down) and then gently tapping it onto a table. All sorts of debris can get caught under the keys and I do this once a month as regular maintenance.

If the suggestions already made fail. see if you can borrow another keyboard to try, they have been known to fail.

Hi Alice. At the moment, I'm using the [$5.] keyboard from my Desk-top unit, with my Lap-top, [because some of the keys have stopped working on it] which I'm using 'till I get the Tower fixed this weekend.
You can pick a keyboard up from an Op-shop for about $4. - $5. Haven't seen one dearer yet. A good Slim-line Monitor is usually about $20. I'm using one of them from an Op-shop too, with the Tower when it's working.
I'll be off-line 'till about Tuesday. Taking everything to my Computer Doctor tomorrow. [Lap-top has a few problems too.]
Cheers,
Sheba.

In older keyboards you can often lift the keys off that don't work and clean under them. Step daughter years ago was a key basher and flattened the letter E contacts under the key. Fixed oK.
Upside down or take to tyre place and get em to blow it down with air,,, OHS issue but they know what to do

Actually for keyboards that are separate, as in Desktop systems, you can take the keyboard apart (the keys will stay attached) and give it a service.
Remove the top cover and the rubber membrane with the little nipples on it and give them a good wash with mild detergent and water and blow dry them.
Then use a small brush, or compressed air to remove any debris from the matrix and lower half of the KB.
Once the top cover with the keys is dry, give the bottom part of the keys a light spray with silicone spray while you're holding the cover in it's normal upright position, but spray from underneath. and only a light spray.
That will bring it back up to new condition or even better sometimes.
Edit:
Incidentally, if you use a vacuum cleaner to clean dust out from under the keys, make sure it isn't a strong one. I once sucked a couple of keys clean off a keyboard using a built in vacuum cleaner and had to go out to the laundry and sift through the crap i the big can to find them..
