It is illegal to cross a double line to get out of an Ambulance's way at full pelt with sirens blaring etc. but okay to overtake a cyclist on a double line ???? ( Must be safe though).

When I was in Townsville during winter 2014 I heard it was new law also then. Maybe they are starting to really advertise it now. Would be good if it was advertised Nationally as with any changes in road laws etc, then everyone should know.

If you come down my way to Geelong Vic, We have an abundance of Bike lanes ? Put in and approved by a Minority Green loving set of public servants, All they do is restrict traffic flow, if any councillor with any sense, would just do a Study [ count ] on the number of bikes that use them, / ? One would wonder why they are there at all ? Even a Councillor would be able to count them as the numbers are Very Low,
And maybe we could sell the Bike Lanes to Qld, ?? As we don't need them and they are almost brand new, and only used by 2 Little old ladies to ride to church on sundays

That article is dated 7 April 2014, it would have been new then.
If we buy those bike lanes do we get the 2 little old ladies with them.

Same with the speed limits in SA. One of many more reasons why we should get rid of States as we know them. Besides, by not advertising these sort of things, it becomes a money grabber.

Way back when I lived in Canberra the cyclists were attaching a flag to the side of their bikes. It projected about 1/2 a metre to the RHS. The flexible pole also had a sharp point on it. Kid that didn't keep the motorists at a reasonable distance.

That law was widely publicised in Queensland when introduced - our local rag feasted on it's pros and cons for days and it led to the council introducing more bike lanes. It would cost a fortune to advertise it's introduction nationally plus nobody reads the newspapers nowdays. Personally I reckon it was 'knee-jerk' legislation and on country roads near towns it creates lots of problems on windy roads when the local lycra lads/ladettes insist on riding early morning.

So, lets get this straight, You are hopping along with your Caravan in tow, on a county road in QLD probably sitting on, say 90kph
round a corner and there is one of those many one way bridges, right in the middle is a old fella on a push bike doing ( if lucky ) 5kph
now you either slam on the brakes or run him flat because your not allowed to pass him within 1.5m of him, !!
This could happen anywhere on many of the very narrow roads that QLD is famous for, a good example is the road from Karumba down to Cloncurry, A strip of one way tar seal with a million pot holes on either side,
How on earth can you give a push-bike the required gap on this road with-out putting you and your caravan down and damaged in the ditch ?
I thing some of these Pollies only make up rules to make them selves famous, not for safety.
That's my Bobs worth anyway.

Let's substitute "an old fella on a bike" for a farm tractor coming toward you, or going your direction, or another caravan, or another car, or a motorbike, or a semi-trailer - or even a pedestrian or cow or horse ...... we could keep substituting . I understand, and can agree with the opinions about this "bike law" but really, it is dangerous meeting any other road user in many circumstances on the road. Drive to the conditions and ALWAYS be prepared for the unexpected.

The article may well have been dated 7th April, 2014 - but did you read it then, I certainly didn't. I am only passing what I heard on Channel 7 news on 5th January 2015. Like the recent changes to road rules in SA, unless we share this information with each other, we may not find out about them - until we are pulled up by the boys in blue hoping to fill their quota for the day.

Thinking of this law "outside the square", it reminds me of the "DO NOT OVERTAKE TURNING VEHICLE" law and its interpretation/implementation.
