I have 5000 w gen it makes a bit of noise / so I run it between 2am and 4am when everyone is asleep as not to annoy anyone // But it still causes trouble,, sorry for that,, I have bought 2 80 watt panels and all the gear // the trouble is the panels have front and back stamped on them.. The problem is which way do they go ??? I would be thank full for some help.. cheers

Not surprised the neighbours are not happy running that thing in early hours of the morning.
Solar is the way to go, when you mount the panels the glass stuff is up & the other side is down.
I wonder why you have a 5000w generator if 2 x 80w panels are sufficient for you? Ditch the monster & get a 2kw Honda for backup, can hardly hear that.

sorry,, bit of a typing error ,, so bloody cold here,, 2 x 280 watt panels,, well with a 5000 w I can run every thing at once,, so the shiny side up,, can I hang them on the back instead of putting holes in the roof??? cheers

No screws needed - I am told you glue the panels on the roof - maybe mounted on a frame that is glued also...... will get myself organised one day and do that also.

Just gluing can cause some problems - Old Boar glued panels on in the heat last year - lost one of them, and the other very nearly fell off as well - now has them mounted, screwed and glued!!

Parked next to people Hamlin Station during the winter, they lost their solar panel some where north of Hamlin Pool. It was glued on.
I screwed and glued our panels.

If we run our geny it's after 8 am and 5 or 6 o'clock PM.. Mainly cooking time ..
The 120 watt with 30 min geny is enough to keep fridges going..
You have way better solar . I wouldn't mind doubling mine..

Why would anyone think that running a generator between 0200 & 0400 would cause the least disturbance?
At that time of night there is no other sound to "deaden" the noise.
I think I'd be looking at topping up your fuel tank with a bit (lot) of sugar

I have just placed another solar panel on the roof of my van and they are all fixed down with Sikaflex 11c or Sikaflex marine. No screws or pop rivets.
I have used 6 aluminium brackets on each one measuring 50mmx 50mm aluminum angle x 180mm long. Total solar 500w.

If your van has had a Vantec coating applied, it will be very hard to get even sikaflex to stick, but I believe Prepsol will remove the vantec from the area you want things to stick to.

well talk about a nightmare ,,,as for sugar in the tank,,, how can that help ??? blue tact might be the way to go,, after all it holds the wheels on okay,, say about 4 coat hooks stuck on the back ,,then hang the panels on them,, ?????? the alum brackets might weigh to much,, good idea though,,

If I hadn't already been up practising my trumpet I would have been really annoyed with him
well not getting much help from here so I will check out the craft and hobbies section,,they may have some special cross stitch that would hold the panels on,, cheers

Just had my laughter fix for the day, learnt how to fix panels to the van use blue tac, enjoying music all hours acceptable, adding water or sugar to genie helps makes them run quieter or selling them takes the smell away. thank you all. Ralph
